When Torrey Bates was shot one Saturday evening in December 2021, it signified that life, as he and his family once knew it, would be changed forever.
It would take the strength of his wife and 10 children, his rock-solid faith, and a miracle from the Lord to see them through the coming hours as he fought to make sense of what had happened to him.
That the bullet, which had lodged itself in his neck, did not kill him instantly or leave him paralyzed for the rest of his life, was indeed a miracle that Torrey can only attribute to God’s plans for him and the rest of his life.
In his book, Rise: 5 Hours That Changed My Life, Torrey recounts that evening in graphic detail, when an unprovoked attack which would have killed him any other day of the week didn’t, and he was able to return to the loving embrace of his family once more.
Now, as he reevaluates everything he thought he knew, he is more determined than ever to follow God’s path, which saved him from another one of his life’s missteps, and to listen to his word at every opportunity.
