Resumen del Editor

What if we could unlock the potential in every child? As it turns out, we can. Apple's iconic cofounder Steve Jobs had a powerful vision for education: employing technology to make an enormous impact on the lives of millions of students. To realize this vision, Jobs tapped John D. Couch, a trusted engineer and executive with a passion for education. Couch believed the real purpose of education was to help children discover their unique potential and empower them to reach beyond their perceived limitations.

Today, technology is increasingly integrated into every aspect of our lives, rewiring our homes, our jobs, and even our brains. Most important, it presents an opportunity to rewire education to enrich and strengthen our schools, children, and society.

In Rewiring Education, Couch shares expertise gained from 50-plus years in education and technology. He takes listeners behind Apple's major research studies, Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) and ACOT2, highlighting the powerful effects of the Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) framework. Going beyond Apple's walls, he also introduces some of the extraordinary parents, educators, and entrepreneurs from around the world who are already utilizing new science-backed methods and technologies to benefit all children, from those who struggle to honor students.

Wish narrator was more lively but great content.

Loved the intertwining between the possibilities and what is already available. Grounded in common sense and I truly believe some of the ideas need to be implemented to today’s educational process.

Intentional stayed away from using ‘educational system’ because what we have today is missing the mark and not worth calling anything but a derailed train that has so much momentum it’s hard to stop.

An important call to action

Couch takes us through his time at Apple (though he does not focus on Apple products - it’s not a commercial), and essentially a history of Ed Tech. Then, he brilliantly wraps the narrative into a call to action for “rewiring” Education. As an Ed Tech Specialist, I can say that I see what he’s seeing, and I agree with his foresight. We NEED to make a conscious, concerted effort to adapt Education to the 21st century. It’s long overdue.

Great discussion about education and life

Great discussion about not only education but about life. How to reform things in a way that is relevant and how things need to be relevant to the people doing the work not the politicians and administrators. In many ways the education analogy to The Open Organization by Jim Whitehurst.

I also found this is the "detail" around some of the innovation that went on under Steve Jobs that people don't know. Everyone focuses on Jobs' own writings, but really it's the people under him who executed and John Couch does an excellent job explaining how Apple approached the education market.

Great insights

The ideas are pretty spot on, but a bit of a propaganda piece for apple. Schools and teachers struggle often with these ideas. With 30 years of teaching experience my students are my best professional development tool. Challenge them and learn from them. Hard with 30 in a class.

Good but too much apple

The first half of the book was fantastic. Second half started to feel a little but like an advertisement for apple. I wish it was a bit more product agnostic but otherwise very informative.

Eye Opener

I picked up this book and was amazed how our education system is out of touch with our students. As a community college instructor, I have challenged myself to look for ways to create passions in my students and to find alternate ways to teach them. Thank you I really enjoyed the common sense approach you used to get your point across.

important read for reform minded educators

Not only did I come away from the reading with refined and new ideas about education, but also with plenty of research papers, technologies & companies, and books to read next as follow-up. The writers are sharp and forward-thinking.
