Book 2 of the Lainey Abbott Series

It's one thing to defend a client everyone thinks is guilty ... it's quite another to defend him if you think so too.

Former ADA turned defense lawyer Lainey Abbott is beginning to worry. It looks like the rest of her professional life will be spent representing dope boys in stop-and-frisk cases, just to help keep the lights on at her and Greg Knight’s law practice. Then a star football player from an elite college shows up at their door.

A young, beautiful classmate, with whom he had an erratic three-month fling, was just found dead, and right away he’s in the NYPD’s crosshairs. Could be a fairly straightforward case to defend. Or maybe not. He's Black, and the missing girl is white.

Without hesitation, Lainey agrees to represent him. She and Greg are hungry for a case like this because they know firsthand how unequal American justice can be. Soon, the ‘straightforward’ case becomes much more complicated than they ever imagined. And if that weren’t bad enough, Lainey’s relationship with Det. Russ Sanders might be unraveling. He isn’t crazy about her working on criminal defense, and worse yet with a former lover as a law partner.

But the biggest test of all is yet to come, and once again, it's about her missing sister, Stephanie.

The book grabbed my attention and held it to the end! I’m looking forward to more.

GREAT Story. AMAZING NARRATOR.

I felt it could have been paced better, a bit much filler. I also got tired of Laney..trusting/distrusting defendant!

Good read

As the MFC she's not likable much to me in this series. She got on my nerves more this book than the first 🙄. I didn't like how she was when it came to Russ and his feelings and how she kept playing with Russ and Greg feelings and emotions. Now, for her to be a lawyer trying to defend her client she act more like she wanted to prove he was guilty than innocent. She let other people get in her head about the case and for her to doubt her client (which was the goal for them to do) knowing that she should not have been speaking on the case with anyone outside of their firm anyway. now I was upset that the client was holding back a lot instead of telling his lawyer everything, but the way she continued to interrogate him as if she felt he was guilty I kind of understood why he held so much back; it was almost like he didn't trust his lawyer lol.. I haven't come across many books where I didn't like the main character and this one was one of them. And I didn't like the way she kept trying to make everyone feel sorry for her and understand her emotions while she was selfish when it came to the way she dealt with other people and their feelings and emotions. Over all, this was still an amazing series and I have recommended this book to a few of my book friends. I hope it doesn't take long for book 3 seeing that this one came out 2 years ago, I would have thought all 3 would have been out by now. Welp on to the next read.

Lainey isn't my fav in this book

Another gripping powerful written crime story and a true page-turner. Jane Doe Black book 1 of this series, leaves readers with the knowledge of what happened to Stephanie, former prosecutor Lainey Abbott's younger sister who went missing after she visited with Lainey. Although Lainey doesn’t have all the pieces yet and doesn’t know who murdered her sister, she is being fed bits and pieces of what may have happened to Stephanie by Detective Luiz as Stephanie’s case has reopened as a homicide in a different district. In this book, Reversible Error, Lainey has left her job as Assistant District Attorney and crossed over to becoming a defense attorney in a high-profile murder case of another young college girl named Kelsey. The suspect, Kurt “Blaze” Johnson a football star, who hides more information than what he reveals. This suspenseful, captivating story will have an ending beyond expectation. A’rese Emokpae’s narration is absolutely superb in both books.

Captivating
