What made the experience of listening to Retribution the most enjoyable?

I read the book but having it narrated was like being right there in the story. Absolutely loved it.

What did you like best about this story?

That Declan although doing a job he put what was right before anything else.

Declan - He did a fantastic job of bringing this character to life for me.

Retribution Versus Love

Nika and Alena Brennan were orphaned when their parents were murdered by ruthless mobsters. Alena has successfully killed three of the perpetrators. Now only one man remains. She will use any means possible to accomplish her task including seducing the man's son, Andre. Nika is a psychic. She's overwhelmed by what she sees in her mind. Suddenly her dreams are haunted by a dream walker. She meets Declan and sees her sexy nightly visitor. He provides security for Andre. What happens to retribution when love enters the equation? Nika is smart, sexy and determined. She will protect her sister regardless of her own feelings. I loved her spunk and her fearlessness. Her unique powers are a blessing and a curse. Declan is attracted by her spirit and amazed by her abilities. He's just not sure he can trust her. I was pulled in by the strong characters and their remarkable chemistry. Alena and Andre make a powerful couple, but they were doomed by their past. The story is an exhilarating and exciting adventure that left me stunned. I loved the paranormal element. It added an interest counterpoint to a suspenseful story. I do hope that Alena will get a chance at happiness. She deserves it. Katie Reus has outdone herself with Retribution and Jeffrey Kafer ramps up the tension with his outstanding narration. I find that audiobooks are a great way to enjoy my favorite author.

Great Paranormal Romance

Yes!Because it is a great Paranormal Romance story with a lot of emotions.

Reus does it again!

I love Kate Reus's ability to come up with an original story, and once again, she has started a series with a bang. It has to be hard to think of a new plot, but with the dream walking I found this one to be fun and refreshing. Nika and Elena are the least likely suspects to commit murder, but something just isn't right. When Declan Gallagher is called to help see what he can find out, he is hesitant, but agrees to invade the dreams of Nika. Now the real fun begins. While I have had dreams that seem real, in this case, a dream walker is actually there, in your dream. A little freaky, but for Nika, she enjoys the seemingly real dream until she actually meets Declan....and now the story gets really moving. The chemistry between these two character is sizzling, but that is not the only draw for me. I love the story. The Russian crime boss, his son, the parents of Nika and Elena, the mole..there is just so much suspense going on, you really have to pay attention to all the nuance to make figure out the answers are and who is really the culprits!

Veteran narrator Jeffrey Kafer is the narrator for this series. It took me a while to adjust to his style of voicing, not the typical deep sound I am used to, but I think he was a good choice for the type of romantic suspense this is. Not only is the book a romance, but the mystery side of it was portrayed with skill and just the right amount of angst to get the suspense to be at it's height. Going to grab the next in the series,so we can hear where Elena and Alexei end up, a small loose end Reus did not tie up!

I only wish this would have been dual narrative even though it's 3rd pov.
I just felt like the softness of a female narrator would have enhanced the female characters parts. But I loved the hero Declan and really loved how sweet he was. The suspense was high and there's so many ways this can go in another book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! I've enjoyed more than a few books from this author and this one was no different. This is a good suspense read with paranormal thrown in there and the narrator did a fantastic job with the characters. I really enjoyed it.

What other book might you compare Retribution to and why?

I would compare Retribution to other books by this author simply because Katie Reus knows how to write such fantastic suspense books filled with the right amount of romance. If you've ever read Katie's books you know she keeps you on the edge of your seat and if you haven't this book is a great start.

Have you listened to any of Jeffrey Kafer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Jeffrey Kafer's performances before and I absolutely love his voice. He once again has done a fantastic job at portraying each character and even though you are only listening to his voice you can feel the emotions the characters are feeling just by hearing it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The journey begins when you take the first step.....

Stand Alone Book -- hope there are more to come

Retribution is a paranormal suspense story by Katie Reus. Declan Gallagher is a former CIA operator who now owns his own security business. He is also a dream walker. Nika and Alena Brenna have secrets. As a favor to a friend, Declan is trying to determine whether the Brennan sisters are innocents or assassins. Declan, in attempting to figure out the sisters’ end-game appears in Nika’s dreams. He realizes right away that she has some psychic ability. When they meet in person the attraction that began and escalated when Declan was dream-walking continues to torment Nika. With danger all around them, friends who are enemies and vengeance in her grasp will she survive the night, and her dreams?

This book is a stand-alone but will hopefully be the beginning of a new series. There are some secondary characters in this story that certainly seem to need their stories told. Ms. Reus’ books are generally an automatic purchase for me. Her plots are well written, the characters are well developed and their interactions are believable.

I listened to this book in the car when travelling. I could listen to Jeffrey Kafer narrate a shopping list. He does an excellent job with the nuances of the characters and actually makes you feel like they are the ones talking.

Great book but so-so narration..

It’s pretty interesting that Declan is a dream-walker and Nika seems to have all kinds of paranormal things going with her, i.e., she has dreams/visions, she sees dead people, and she can see Declan when HE enters HER sleep. Fascinating! AND Declan’s brothers have some kind of paranormal woo-woo going on. One brother was a telekinetic, one was a clairsentient, and one was a clairvoyant. I do hope there’s going to be books about Declan’s other brothers.

This was really exciting from the very beginning. It was about human trafficking, murder, kidnapping, and a little mystery, and sex, and romance. With all that what more could you ask for?

Then, there’s the romance that’s going on between Andre and Alena. Alena is holding back so many secrets from Andre, while trying not to become involved with him, just as Nika is worrying about her growing feelings for Declan. Both relationships were built on lies so there was a lot to work through.

There was explicit sex, and the F-bomb was used 55 times.

As to the narrator: Jeffrey Kafer has a very sexy voice but his female voices totally suck, they sound soooo manly, but he does a great job on a little girl, go figure. And when you’re sneaking up on the bad guys in a warehouse you are NOT going to be talking in your regular voice, you’d be whispering. And when you’re not whispering it makes the book completely ridiculous. I can put up with bad voices or just plain terrible readers but I just can’t stand it when the narrator should absolutely, positively be whispering and are not!

was wary of the psychic and dreamwalker aspect....

I love Katie reus but was a little scared this would be too cheesy/out there for me. she definitely pulls it off though! I really enjoyed the characters and loved the story line.
and of course Jeffrey kafer's narration is great!

Spy games

This was a great keep you on the edge of your seat story. Lots of twists and turns. I like the paranormal aspect added into the story. The growly male and stand up for themself female is always appreciated.
Jeffrey always does a great job.
