Resumen del Editor

A remarkably bold and inspiring story of crime, motherhood, and redemption - not since Cupcake Brown's A Piece of Cake has there been a memoir this unforgettable.

You want to know about the struggle of growing up poor, black, and female? Ask any girl from any 'hood. You want to know what it takes to rise above your circumstances when all the cards are stacked against you? Ask me.

Comedian Patricia Williams, who, for years, went by her street name, Rabbit, was born and raised in Atlanta's most troubled neighborhood at the height of the crack epidemic.

One of five children, Pat watched as her alcoholic mother struggled to get by on charity, cons, and petty crimes. At age seven, Pat was taught to roll drunks for money. At 12, she was targeted for sex by a man eight years her senior; by 13, she was pregnant. By 15, Pat was a mother of two.

Alone at 16, Pat was determined to make a better life for her children. But with no job skills and an eighth-grade education, her options were limited. She learned quickly that hustling and humor were the only tools she had to survive.

Rabbit is an unflinching memoir of cinematic scope and unexpected humor that offers a rare glimpse into the harrowing reality of life on America's margins - a powerful true story of resilience, determination, and the transformative power of love.

All genres considered, the memoir is among the most difficult and complex for a writer to pull off. After all, giving voice to your own lived experience and recounting deeply painful or uncomfortable memories in a way that still engages and entertains is a remarkable feat. These autobiographies, often narrated by the authors themselves, shine with raw, unfiltered emotion sure to resonate with any listener. But don't just take our word for it—queue up any one of these listens, and you'll hear exactly what we mean.

Editor's Pick

Think Tiffany Haddish with a dash of Elaine Stritch
"Maybe you had a great childhood with totally functional parents who loved you very much and made sure you knew it. I’m happy for you, I swear! Fortunately for the rest of us, we have Ms. Pat, who is the patron saint of coping through laughter. Ms. Pat was just a kid when she was repeatedly sexually assaulted, and she was pregnant by the time she was 13. By 15, she was a mother of two. Through it all, she developed a keen hustler’s spirit and stayed afloat until she discovered she had a knack for comedy. No one else can make me laugh (or cry) like Ms. Pat."

a beautiful honest story.

I literally cried during the entire last chapter. So sad that it's over. Me Pat's narration was honest and fresh. Her side splitting humor is only tempered by the weight of her story. This is a must read, it will take your emotions for the best ride ever.

The best book I've ever read!

This is hands down the best book I've ever read or this case heard. From the moment it starts you are drawn in. Ms. Pat has lived an amazing life and overcame the odds while remaining grateful and with a big loving heart. This woman is truly amazing this needs to be a movie!

A story of triumph

I saw the recommendation for this book in essence magazine. I was skeptical at first, normally reading autobiographies of people I knew, but I gave it a try. Oh how I was mistaken. This book was excellent! The story was so well told. I had moments of laughter, sadness, and tears. An emotional roller coaster for sure, but it was great. I recommend the book for anyone. It gives such motivation. Great job, Ms. Pat, great job!

Most amazing real life experience I have read.

This is a must read. As much as Rabbit thought her life was “normal”, I thought I knew what a hard life was. I was wrong. I didn’t know anything about the trials of living in these situations and I had many options about why people ended up in them.
Ms Pat, you taught me a lot.
I’ve recommend this to my kids who grew up in the “white burbs”. Many white people have no idea...

an Emotional Eyeopener to world not talked about

Ms. Pat is such an amazing personality. I loved when she did guest spots on the multitude of Podcasts that I listen to. She always brought so much culture with her and a viewpoint that the hosts were never accustomed to. When I heard about her autobiography on Your Mom's House, and what her origins had been, I was compelled to learn more about her Journey and what circumstances gave her one of the largest hearts in the comedic circuit. Rabbit did not disappoint on any level. I cried at so many points in this book as I pictured her childhood, beyond that, I cried imagining my own children being brought up in her same story. Ms. Pat does an unbelievably brilliant job of sharing her innocence as a child with you and how she had to make the decisions she did. She brings to light the plight of so many young women in the world being subject to a man's world and the pressure to perform and please, and further, the difficulty of breaking such an attachment. From a baby to adulthood, you see how her greatest wish was to protect others from how she was raised and to truly wave the flag that anyone can do anything if you have the courage to dream.

I have to say this book is amazing!!! I didn't think I was going to enjoy it, but I loved it! It's a great life story from start to finish. She tells stories that will make you laugh and also make you cry. A story of abuse, love and pure triumph. This is a book I will read again for sure.....Great read!!!
