Resumen del Editor

When romance author Elliot Jentry's husband is killed in the line of duty, Elliot decides to leave the painful memories behind and move to Louisiana with her two children. She purchases a derelict plantation home in the hopes of starting a new life. The old home, originally named Sophie but now known as Purgatory, was owned by the family of pirate Louis-Michel Aury for 200 years. The old house, built with the blood money of pirates, is full of legends and ghosts, as Elliot quickly discovers.

Helping Elliot acclimate to the house is Nash Aury, descendent of the great pirate and Sheriff of Ascension Parish. A tall, dark, and handsome drink of water, Nash is immediately attracted to the beautiful blond from California, gently wooing the woman with the fragile heart.

As Elliot and Nash find themselves swept into a deeply passionate romance, old enemies of the Aury's continue to harass the occupants of the house and Elliot finds herself caught up in a centuries-old feud. As she struggles to overcome the adversity and restore the grand old mansion to its former glory, she discovers secrets about the house that are deep and dark.

The ghost of Sophie MacGregor, the home's namesake, is seen walking the grounds on the full moon, looking for her murdered children. As the ghosts of a destroyed family search for each other, it's up to Elliot and Nash to bring peace to the house once known as Purgatory as they find a deep and eternal love for each other in the process.

Liked it!

This was my first Kathryn LeVeque book and I'm glad I found her! So excited to explore some of her medieval stories. One complaint I had with this narration was the female voices. Wayne Paige has a very deep voice, (which is sexy!), but his female characters come across screechy, especially if excited. Other than that, he's awesome!

House of Secrets

If you like romance, mystery, haunted mansions, and a story that keeps you reading, you will love this book. They call it "Purgatory," and it holds many secrets. Can the ghosts of Purgatory find peace at last? What about the living? There is murder and mayhem afoot. This was truly a fabulous book.

not as ghosty as I'd hoped

I was thinking haunted house book, ok so there are ghosts but they never made contact in the 5 times they showed up. This is more a love story and tge greedy neighbors story. This is not say that the book wasn't good because it was. I love Wayne Paige's male voices. His voice is a bit deep for the women's but he gave it a heck of a shot.

Purgatory

Any additional comments?

This was a fast moving ,fabulous book!I loved it from beginning to end!The pace of the love story was a bit unreal, but if you can believe in ghosts, you can believe that.Elle moves her teenaged son and daughter to the Bayou to make a new start. The house they find when they get there is in need of much more TLC than expected. The police chief, feeling bad because he'd been the one to sell the house, starts helping fix things and falls for the new lady in town. With neighbors feuding and pirate booty to be found, there is much going on.
Wayne Page gives voice to all the characters and he does it well.

Great story.

Great story, but the narrator, the voice that he used for the h , has no feelings, no emotions. But it’s Kathryn Le Veque, So it still worth it to listen.

Lovely southern cajun vocal tone brings it to life

What did you love best about Purgatory?

I usually don’t read or listen to a lot of contemporary romances since a few of the ones I have read or listen to are too close to reality for my liking. I like to read or listen to escape my daily life. In fact this is probably the only contemporary audio book that I currently have. I think what really made this story such a wonderful one to listen too was not only the wonderful narrator but the characters. The handsome totally southern gentleman sheriff hero Nash instantly came alive for me while listening to Mr. Wayne Paige. This is exactly what I imagined Nash to sound like! Plus, the story’s setting was just easily imaginable. I could easily see that great mysterious Victorian plantation house with the willows around it the history, the bayou, the alligators, the French quarter and Louisiana made me feel as if I was actually there. Yes, I would be eating barbeque alligator with Alec!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Purgatory?

The heroine Elliott moves from California to be close to her daughter who is going to college in Louisiana, to not only get away from the death of her past husband and start a new life with her teenage son. Elliot purchases and plans to fix up an old Victorian plantation home and in doing this meets the former owner and local sheriff the hero Nash. For me the most memorable part of the story was when Nash, Elliott and Dr. Clarke finally got purgatory back to its former glory and finally brought peace to Sophie and her children.

Have you listened to any of Wayne Paige’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this is actually my first time of getting to experience and listen to Mr. Wayne Paige’s lovely southern cajun Louisiana drawl, accent and narration. After listening to him do such a wonderful job of narrating I would definitely enjoy listening to him again and will get more audio books with him narrating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No there isn’t enough time for me to listen to the entire book in one sitting it is just not feasible for me. Plus, I like to repeat certain parts of the book over and over again if I don’t process that part of the book as quickly as I should for the story to make sense to me.

Any additional comments?

Ms. Kathryn Le Veque despite being mostly a medieval romance author which in all honesty I love those stories of hers the best! Still Ms. Le Veque is able to tell such a fascinating compelling contemporary love story that even though I don’t read a lot of contemporaries I have read all of hers and enjoy every single one! I will definitely get more of her contemporary romances in audio books as well.

This hero has the perfect audio performer

Publisher's summary covers most of it, do not look for spoilers here. Louisiana bayou, derelict mansion, ghosts, homicidal crazies, good guys, and romance make for an entertaining read. Story is well thought out, but a little irregular in pace. Characters are well developed and generally all too believable.
That being said, the best part is the audio performer. With deep voice, applied drawl, cadence appropriate to events, ability to vocally differentiate characters as well as portray their emotions/reactions, he truly makes this an audio experience not to be missed.
Many thanks to AudioBook Blast for giving me the opportunity to be gifted with this book.

Purgatory: American Heroes, Book 3 Review

What did you love best about Purgatory?

What I liked best about Purgatory was the ending where there was a good twist. The story was pretty good but it was11:50 in length and fairly uneventful until it reached the end. I felt it could have had about three hours shaved off. It just kept teasing the listener with hints of something but nothing really stood out. With the fact that Purgatory was an old pirate plantation, this book could have been so much better.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would have to say that Elliot was my favorite character.

Which character – as performed by Wayne Paige – was your favorite?

Nash was my favorite character played by Wayne Paige. He played all the characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No. I spent about 12 hours in one day listening to this audiobook and it was mostly uneventful until the very end. I did like when Elliot reached out and was kind to Ms. Biffy. That surprised me. I've read another book by Kathryn Le Veque and enjoyed it much more.

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook as a gift in exchange for an unbiased review.
