Resumen del Editor

At the Universal Advertising Agency in London a murder is being planned.

Three men have been discovered taking bribes and face the grim prospect of the dole queue, unless they can get rid of the person who caught them. Their ringleader, thick-set and vicious Mr. Morris, soon discovers that killing is far easier than he thought - and that he even has a talent for it. He might, he feels, be superhuman. But as he will discover, there is no such thing as the perfect crime, and no deed goes unpunished.

Taking us into a 1920s London of grimy back streets, smoky cafés and shabby rooms, Plain Murder, C. S. Forester's second crime novel, is a brilliantly atmospheric and gripping portrayal of the dark heart of a killer.

Intriguing book and great narration

Enjoyed the book, the unexpected plot, and the author's hints of satire, plus great narration...

Chilling Suspense

I have read Forester's Hornblower series and African Queen. Forester is such a good writer I decided to try out one of his other books. This book was published in 1930. Forester creates an atmosphere of chilling suspense in a story that has one avidly wanting to know what happens next. It is different from our modern stories where we are trying to discover who did it or why they did it. In this story we know who did it and why, we are waiting for them to get caught. The story takes place in 1920's London. Morris works for an advertising agency and is caught with two other men by their boss for taking bribes. Morris makes Harrison (his boss) have an accident. As the story unfolds we see the moral decline of Morris as he finds murder a way of solving his problems with people. I will not spoil the story for you needless to say the story takes twists and turn as we chew our nails. It is important to remember this book is written in 1930 and must be enjoyed and judged on that basis. Ric Jerrom does a good job reading the book.
