Acerca de esta escucha
After experiencing an extreme makeover of their faith, Jason and Brandi Elam found themselves wondering if their fear-based parenting methods might need to evolve as well. They reached out to several brilliant friends who had experience parenting through their own faith deconstruction and invited them to write about their journeys. These contributions offer hope and hard-fought wisdom for weary parents desperately trying to forge real connections with their kids before time runs out and the babies fly the nest.

Life throws us “curve balls”—from devastating personal losses to world tragedies. These events often leave us doubting God, the Bible, and our faith. But instead of pushing away our reservations, we should embrace them, Peter Enns argues. A leading biblical scholar and Christian mentor, Enns has never been afraid to question the Bible or Christian beliefs. Such thoughtful inquisitiveness, he argues, is part of God’s plan. He wants us to question, because doing so actually leads to a stronger, lasting faith.

What we know is this: There is more of God to know than any of us will ever fully know in this life. So, let's begin by embracing the mystery of Christ to discover the endlessly unfolding beauty of uncertainty.

Historia
As a twenty-three-year-old singer and the soon-to-be wife of youth pastor Joshua Harris, nothing in Shannon Harris's secular upbringing prepared her to enter the world of conservative Christianity. Soon Joshua's bestselling book I Kissed Dating Goodbye helped inspire a national purity movement, and Shannon's identity became "pastor's wife." The Woman They Wanted recounts Shannon's remarkable experience inside Big Church—where she was asked to live within a narrow definition of womanhood for almost two decades—and her journey out of that world and into a more authentic version of herself.

The good news is our children don't need perfect parents. They need authentic, fully-hearted, relationally engaged parents who can mess up and move on more than parents who always get it right. In this freeing book, respected therapists and best-selling authors Stephen James and Chip Dodd invite parents to let go of perfectionism and micromanaging as they learn to parent from a place of emotional honesty and intimacy. They teach parents that raising children to become capable, loving, and wise-hearted adults is far more about accepting our flaws than projecting an impossible standard.

Life lessons for anyone
As someone who is not a parent and not actively deconstructing, this compilation of essays was surprisingly enlightening. Anyone going through any major life change, whether it’s a new job, moving, divorce, or reinventing oneself, will find this book filled with nuggets of wisdom sprinkled amongst the fascinating personal narratives and often painful but always worthwhile self-reflections.
If you are interested in better understanding people with a different mindset, trying to navigate parenting or life in general through a spiritual or other major life shift, or are simply looking for stories of personal growth and development, definitely give this book a listen.
