Resumen del Editor

In sixth-century Ireland, books are rare treasures.

Aine, a young woman unwillingly pledged to marry, believes the book is a talisman with the power to change her circumstances. When she steals it from her betrothed’s clan, desperate to use it to help her mother’s impoverished people, events tumble out of control. She seeks help from Brigid, the woman who rescued her long ago, but doing so puts an entire monastery at risk as the king deploys his army to get the book back.

The formerly banished druid Ardan hopes the book can be traded for revenge, but a mysterious force curses him with a reoccurring mark in the shape of Brigid’s famous reed cross. Is it the power of a vengeful god or the command of the book that is causing his anguish?

While many seek to possess the book, it appears to choose who will hear its words. No one in Ireland will know the power of the words written on its pages if the book does not survive the battle.

Irish legend: A first for me

I am not familiar with Irish legends so this story was totally out of what I am used to. I enjoyed the legend quotes at the beginning of many of the chapters. I was a little lost at the beginning of the book but it became more interesting/understandable later on as I continued to listen. I think it would be better to read the first book. I especially enjoyed the narrator who has the Irish progue though I had to get used to hearing it. I was given a copy by the author. I choose to write this review.

Good Historical Fiction

The second book of the "Daughters of Ireland" was entertaining. Aine stole an important book from her intended's clan, which led to a series of calamities. This story started out a little slow for me as I had no connection with the characters. As the story progressed, I was drawn into the characters' lives and my interest grew. I liked that I learned more about the characters that were presented in the first book of the series. Stacey Houston's narration was great, and her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Interesting but not the best narration

Listened to the audiobook version of this story. The story was a little slow and took a little while to get going. It did get a little more interesting as the story went but not a story I would normally read. I also felt that the narrator of the audiobook sounded like they were in a box when they recorded this. i did receive a free copy of the audiobook to give my unbiased review of.
