The palpable atmosphere of 1950s Egypt, the idiosyncrasies of a big Sephardic family where there are no small personalities, the subtle humour with a piercingly sad undertone — I loved it all

Aciman is a fanstastic writer. I’m not even Sephardic Jewish and I now have some nostalgia for Egypt.
