Perseverance Pays Off

A woman slowly realizes that her husband’s beatings are not due solely to alcohol use and decides to leave him to save her life and the life of their unborn child. She moves as far away from him as she possibly can and makes a new life for herself under an assumed name. Just when she is becoming accepted into the tight knit community, and possibly falling in love again against her better judgment, her husband shows up in town.

She is not sure about the man she is falling for. He has shown a willingness to be violent. But her also appears to be a kind person and a godly man. He is struggling with his own dilemma at the moment and this makes him appear to be something that he is not.

This book has no surprises, is a story we have all seen before, and, of course, has a somewhat sappy ending. Despite this, there is a good message here. Trust in the Lord to guide you in all ways and you will find tranquility. Life is not perfect, will never be perfect but we can find peace in living our life according to His will.

Susan Fouche does a fine narration. She paces the story just right to capture the drama and tension created by the story and her male voices were good.

Soo Good

I got this book via audiobook boom. I loved this story. It is a story of faith, strength and the ability to make lemonade out of lemons. After living in an abusive situation and escaping then finding the one man that God has for you was remarkable. It makes you think about how when you read the Bible with understanding rather than through someone else's eyes. This story made me think and continue to listen until the end.

New Beginnings

Which character – as performed by Susan Fouche – was your favorite?

I thought Ms. Fouche did a nice job with the various characters in the cast. I could only give 3.5-4 stars due to the loud breaths throughout the narration. It was distracting.

I did find Serena a bit irritating. Perhaps that was how she was written. She just seemed to waiver on making some really important decisions (like speaking to Charlie before things happened) or purposely egging John on. I didn't think those scenarios were realistic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I felt the abuse scenes were well done. The thoughts going through the mind of Serena (why she didn't leave earlier in the relationship) were spot on.

Any additional comments?

I didn't like how the police chief just blew off Serena's call for help the first time. It was irritating for a person in law enforcement to be depicted this way.

Mr. Chapin creates a well-developed story in such a short time. I would have liked a longer story to get to really know John, Serena and Charlie.

No complaints against the narrator. I just did not care for the way the story unfolded.

I was happy to see Serenha get out of that marriage and get on with her life

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The abuse scenes were spot on terrifying and believable. I lived them too. Glad she got away.
