Stone looks at the Nixon Presidency: the desegregation of the public schools, the progressive social programs, Nixon's struggle to end the war in Vietnam, the historic SALT arms reduction agreement with Russia, the saving of Israel in the Six Days War, the opening to China, and the disastrous decision to take America off the gold standard.

Flawed but Captivating Insider Portrait of Nixon

OVERALL - Let me start by stating that I am a fan of both Roger Stone and the accomplishments of Richard Nixon before his largely self-inflicted fall from grace. The book succeeds because Stone is open and honest about Nixon as leader and as a man. Unfortunately, no one could listen to the entire book and not be critical of the 'mail it in' style of writing used throughout it. The kindest thing I can say about it is that Stone or his co-author Mike Colapietro must have thought they were being paid by the word. It was that repetitive. It is as if articles or diary entries were cobbled together with little cohesion to create this book. Had it been structured better, this book would easily be a five star review.

STORY - Great story with great insight as to Stone's personal relationship with Nixon as well as a retelling of the highs and lows of the former President's life. There is plenty of red meat for those who enjoy Stone's insight and often attacks on other political figures (JFK, LBJ, the Bush's, et al), but the story really does come down to how well Nixon is analyzed as both a strong leader and a deeply flawed human. Stone deserves much credit for his balanced look at the man.

NARRATION - Stephen Hoye does an acceptable job with his narration. Nothing about his delivery stands out yet nothing detracts from the story. Just the way it should be.

Great insightful and thought provoking !

Roger Stone is an excellent writer whose exposure to the world of politics is without comparison - in the sense that he tells it like it was and is - nothing held back. This is why this book and his work is exceptional. Nixon is a fascinating story that weaves all dimensions of the political dynamic in our country that repeats itself today. The dark and horrific underbelly - and the higher ideals that are now so very scarce among our degenerated political class.

A clear insight into our government and the people that make It work. John Dean's betrayal puts him in the same class as Hillary Clinton. Both willing to do anything to get what they want.

love this book Roger Stone was balanced and fair and provided redemption for Richard Nixon! shows the depth of corruption in Washington and in our government! well worth the time to read.. Roger Stone continues to expose the corruption of the deep State and swamp in Washington DC.. I work with White House Advance man that the 1972 Convention in Miami Beach..

Oh Boy!

There may be other bio out there on Nixon and I thought Roger Stone did a great job writing on LBJ, so I have been listening to this. Not a close listen, I'll do that later

It is personal taste and I found I did not like the Stephen Hoye narration and that made listening a bit of an effort. A lot of the names, as important as they are were lost on me and I need a brief Who is Who beside me.
Hoover certainly had his camera everywhere.
This is more action packed than the Wild West.

Nixon the untold story

loved it, learned alot from this book. The varies political figures discussed here is eye opening. Great source of information about our nation.

With most stories about Nixon coming from a partisan angle, I appreciate learning history from the angle of someone who was there, and didn't have a political axe to grind.

Great book but very sad to find out Nixon knew who killed JFK also.
