Consoling a sobbing dragon and serving pig buffets are just part of the job for Myrna Banks. Working for a mediation firm, it's her job to get humans compensated for damages caused by the dragons who now rule. But her "typical" day is interrupted by Trian Chobardan, an old flame who sneaked out of her bed two years ago, taking her heart and a handful of classified documents with him.
Myrna would love to show Trian the door, but he's been sent by North America's reigning dragon lord for help negotiating a truce with a powerful rival to avert war. Myrna agrees to help, even though she'll be stuck with Trian as a partner.
As the two work together, Myrna finds Trian to be surprisingly supportive - and still irresistibly attractive. Though her brain tells her not to forget his betrayal, her body feels differently. When they learn the enemy dragon lord is planning something no one could have imagined, Myrna has to learn who she can trust before she loses not only her heart, but her life.

Cute and quick read

The story was told from Myrna's perspective (a Dragon translator) as she becomes reunited with her ex Trian who's a handsome, Alpha hunk (naturally) however, he betrayed her the year before and, although the attraction still sizzles under the surface and they now have to work together, she lost nearly everything when he left so she's not in a forgiving or forgetting mood.
Then the storyline picks up pace as it flows and grows when the battle between good vs evil erupts and an action packed, tension filled plot unfolds. It's funny, there's secrets, suspense, mystery, twists, and betrayal that thankfully leads to forgiveness and second chances. It's filled with interesting likeable primary characters that have good emotional chemistry and some disgusting, villainous and evil secondary characters some of whom we may see in books 2 and/or 3.
Worth a credit? Well, if you're looking for an enjoyable, entertaining paranormal listen then Yes - for me it was more sassy than sexy or romantic, the romance did blossom at the end but it was mainly a missing ingredient but I will look for book 2 in the hope that LC includes more romance and a little spice.
GOOD BUT...... JUST NOT QUITE GREAT

First Thoughts when Finished: Great new world and fed my dragon fascination :)
Story Thoughts: Those pesky dragons! They can be so darn testy. I really enjoyed this new dragon world where humans/dragons co-exist and are aware of each other. Never Deal with Dragons was a nice mix of mystery, action, political intrigue, and romance (Personally I felt the romance in this story was secondary). Overall it was a great beginning to the series. There is a slight cliffhanger (pesky) but it wasn't to bad!
Character Thoughts: Myrna was an awesome character. She was smart, good at her job, and had a pretty sturdy spine. She also has a great friend, incredible linguistics talents, and the ability to adapt to her situations but also the ability to rise above them. All around she was fantastic. It took awhile (3/4 of the book) for me to warm up to her love interest: Trian. I liked him as a character but have to admit their romance wasn't "sizzling" to me. Trian was everything a person working with Dragons should be: quick, agile, daring, and a little to smart for his own good!
Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Leslie Bellair / Length: 7 hrs and 40 mins
This is the first time I have listened to Leslie and it probably won't be my last. I really liked how well she did Myrna's voice! I also liked her pacing and nuances. I wasn't a huge fan of her male voices but they did grow on me through out the story. As always, you should listen to a sample of audiobook before purchasing so you can decide if the voice works for you.
Final Thoughts:Can't wait till book 2! I want to know what happens.
Interesting twist on Dragons...

Not everyone can understand the dragons, only special humans can. Those humans are usually hired as translators. Every now and then after all a dragon might accidentally eat a cow or a person and someone has to handle those issues.
Fascinating world, cute and funny. Not a whole lot of angst or drama...unless you count hiding under tables and beds from the ticked off dragons. This was an easy Sunday book. I recommend it. 4 stars instead of 5 because it was so easy going and there was barely any steam or cussing....which I rather enjoy in my books.
Funny and cute, interesting world

I liked the storyline and hope there will be more by this author soon. Worth the credit if you want a nice easy listen. Fairly vanilla romantic scenes for those who don't like more explicit stuff.
Narrator did a good job!!!
Not a Bad Listen...

I am undecided on the narration, in the beginning I did not care for it, but her voice grew on me and while great for most of the characters some of the dragons would have been better with a deeper voice (while not really feasible...I think it would be awesome if all audio's had "full cast" narration) I know that realistically I'm not going to get all the voices to be what I think they should be.
So all in all a good read/listen and hope the author does more in this world.
