As Tauk watches over Dr. Duverii during the long slog to Narman’s Pyke, she teaches him how to combat the horrific creatures stalking them through the rainforest. He must figure out for himself, however, that the biggest threats to their lives are not the beasts lurking beneath the Kanarisian underbrush.

It is the monsters who sent them to Narman’s Pyke in the first place.

This is the first book I've read/listened to by JE Park. It's not my normal genre, and it took me awhile to finally start listening to since it's a long audiobook. I wanted to be able to listen to it without interruptions while on the road. Glad I choose to do that. I enjoyed the storyline, but there are some gory scenes that I wished I could have skipped. No closing my eyes like I can watching the television. The characters were fighting to survive in what seems to be a no win situation. It was hard to figure out who was "good". I look forward to the next book to see how this continues!

Keith Brown is an excellent narrator! There were so many characters to voice. I was impressed. He brought this book to life with an emotional performance that had it rolling like a movie in my head. Perfection!

Everything I want in a military action sci-fi!

The novel started with a bang and didn’t let up with an action-packed, highly entertaining adventure. The narrator did an amazing job with distinctive voices for each character, perfect pacing, and a great talent for dialogue and action scenes. Be prepared for a high body count and bursts of strong violence, but it is balanced by a well-thought-out future society and a detailed alien planet with an ecosystem of dangerous wildlife. The main character Tak, a Marine soldier since birth, is flawed but very likeable. The story is told from his perspective.

I was hooked from the first chapter and didn’t want to put down my earbuds. I am looking forward to the next in the series. I highly recommend this to all fans of action-packed military science fiction. Fans of contemporary military fiction would probably enjoy this as well. I listen to a lot of space operas and haven’t read any military sci-fi, but this book has opened my eyes to a whole new subgenre I can jump into!
