If you are a survivor, this book is for you. If you are a clinician, it will change the way you see collapse and recovery. If you are lost in the mirrored gaze of narcissistic abuse, know this: There is a way out - and a way back.

For 40 years, the literature has been asking "Who is the narcissist?". MPIT asks, at last: "What happens to the one who survives them?" Narcissism theory is incomplete without its shadow: the collapse of the victim. MPIT completes the picture. From collapse to integration: the first psychodynamic map of the survivor's journey. What survivors have long known in their bodies and bones is now being mapped with clinical precision.

This book is not about co-dependency, self-help platitudes, or pop-psychology soundbites. It is a comprehensive framework that shows why collapse happens, how the psyche inverts, and how recovery is not only possible - but inevitable when the path is lit.

Finally a book that explains the mechanisms that bring about the incredible damage the victims of narcissistic abuse deal with and exposes why we struggle so mightily to recover from these devastating relationships. People who recover from less toxic breakups cannot conceive of the level of destruction done to survivors of these deeply ill and abusive people, or how dark and lonely the place we’re left can be. The torment is incredible and the author breaks it all down here.

Mark Beare dissects the ways in which we are bound to and broken by these people, and explains the descent into misery and mental collapse we find ourselves fighting to recover from. This book is a revelation for victims and a must read if you are struggling to understand how this happened to you and why it was so much more dramatic and painful than other relationships and separations.

Despite the AI reader idiosyncrasies I found this book to be a brilliant addition to the knowledge I’d previously amassed and a very detailed explanation of the psyche of the Narcissist and exactly how we broke. Well done!
