Beautiful historical story

This book would make a great movie
I loved this mans story and discription of our beautiful country

now that was a fun ride along. And I learned so much of the history here in the old west.

Wealth!

Mr. Thomas' account of his life contains a wealth on knowledge that will warrant my listening again, as well as purchasing the hard copy, if available. I hated for his account to end. How wonderful it would be to sit around a fire and listen to him spin his tales! Mr. Chandler's narration was perfect: not overly dramatic and yet with feeling in all the correct places. I've recommended this book to all my adult children!

Pretty good

I enjoyed this, and enjoy about learning about this time in history. It's a good book, but it wasn't memorable enough to give it 5 stars. Still, good enough that I recommend it.

Incredibly Racist, but interesting

Must have been ghost written by some hack. All the cliches about dirty, dishonest, savage Indians. Still, aspects are interesting. Recommend a read, but take with a good punch of salt.

An interesting catalog of experiences

Provides glimpses into his version of life as a trapper which are of interest as he was there. Engaging enough to make it an easy listen.

Both as something to "read" (listen to) and as a performance "read", I found this book to be 5 stars. I think Chandler's voice and performance is *perfect* for this work, and the story is most interesting, thought-provoking, and "real". I highly recommend this to any of you out there that are interested in this topic and/or like this genre overall. /kaliko

Unbelievable first person storytelling

The author really connects the reader to the realities of the frontiersmen. This story shows the true grit of early American pioneers.
