Powerful Story of Reconcilliation
Where does My Enemy, My Friend rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
My Enemy, My Friend is among the most compelling audiobooks I have listened to. It is both historical and contemporary in its content.
What other book might you compare My Enemy, My Friend to and why?
It stands alone as a modern day story of "mortal enemies" who find a way to reconcile long after the Vietnam War is over. The journey to actually meeting face-to-face makes for a satisfying audiobook.
Have you listened to any of Andrew Garman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to any of his previous performances.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was emotionally touched at several points in the narrative. After visiting the "Hanoi Hilton," when Hong My put his arm around Gen. Cherry's shoulder and patted his back to console him over the punishment the prisoners endured is an especially emotional moment. Later in the narrative when John Stiles recognizes the absolute positive impact of meeting Hong My and coming to an understanding of what took place on the day he was shot down is also a strong moment. Finally, when Hong My explains why he didn't like the book. It was the title - My Enemy, My Friend - not the book that he did not like. As Hong My explained, they were just soldiers doing the best they could for their countries during a very difficult time.
