The day after the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor, Murphy joins the US 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, and soon volunteers for the newly formed US Rangers.
He takes part in the bloody attack on the French Channel port of Dieppe. The furious German defense results in hundreds of Allied deaths, yet Murphy makes it back to continue training for the invasion of France, codenamed Operation Overlord. Their orders are to land at Omaha Beach, scale the cliffs, and destroy the gun batteries at Pointe du Hoc. They land and start climbing under murderous gunfire, yet manage to fight their way inland where the Germans are waiting to blast them back into the sea with overwhelming armor and artillery fire.
For one SS officer, the battle becomes personal. He wrongly believes Murphy killed a man after he’d surrendered. The man was his brother, and he is determined to get revenge, no matter what it takes. Fighting back against relentless enemy assaults, narrowly surviving German ambushes, Jack Murphy heads toward the final showdown with the Nazi who will stop at nothing to see him dead.
