Can you imagine if the United States didn’t have freedom of religion and one religion controlled the country? Would it be Christianity, Islam, or Judaism? In R.P. Wolff’s fifth book, a paranormal thriller in a dystopian world. Materism, the worship of the Gods of the Sun, Land, and Sea, has taken over the United States as the only religion. Maters brand the foreheads of infidels with the first letter of the infidel’s religion, so they can’t ever escape their initial religious identity. Maters separate nonbelieving children from their parents, and Maters enslaved the families until they truly convert to Materism.

Zelda, the evil Mother of all the Gods, is the leader of Materism and the virgin mother of the Gods of the Sun, Land, and Sea. The Gods sent Zelda down to the Earth on the Awakening as spelled out in the Mater scriptures. She appeared to be a helpless baby, but she was anything but helpless. She possessed powers to assert excruciating pain onto men. This power allowed her to eventually take over as President of the United States and to force everyone to convert to Materism on the Conversion day.

One of Zelda’s victims is Lance Hampton, a Christian and former governor of Texas. Maters separated him from his family and tortured his teenaged daughter. Lance’s only wish is to seek revenge on Zelda and return to his family.

Will Lance and the other infidels fight back?

Creative, Suspenseful

I listened to this book quickly because it was hard to put down. It’s a page turner and the battle scenes were very intense. It took me to another world. It reminded me a little of A Handmaid’s Tale. Interesting futuristic fantasy!

A dystopian novel that brings together the idea of a new religious order

known as the Maters seizing control of the government from all aspects.

The idea of a money-less society, that uses a "Freedom Chip" in order to

function in society. This concept mirrors things supposedly happening in

our world today. The message of The Maters is join our Socialist Society

or become the down trodden and enslaved.


The former governor of Texas is a rebel, unwilling to convert. The

Mater's

attempt to control him by using his daughter.

When good meets evil there must be a battle. The listener will need to

follow to see who wins.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed with

minimal voices. R.P. Wolff narrated his own work. He was able to add

some dimension to the story, because of his knowledge of the storyline.

Clever and unnerving

Reminiscent of A Handmaid’s Tale but in reverse with some science fiction thrown in, Mother of All the Gods is an exercise in what could happen when society and government become maniacal about one dogma. Here it is a religious dogma, but one could easily interchange any political dogma. This book is terrifying partly because it is not so far fetched. One could easily see this, aside from some of the Sci-fi aspects, to happen at any time. Definitely an interesting read.

Thought-provoking, Unnerving & Very Entertaining

Overall a very entertaining, interesting and engaging story. It pulled me in quickly and kept my attention. Once I started the book, every time I had to pause my listening for some reason I was in a hurry to get right back to the story. Any book that I can't wait to get back to is a great story.

While this is a dystopian story and completely fictional it has certain elements/aspects that are quite scary and could come close to reality in the not too distant future if things continue the way they are. (The religious persecution of certain people, the cashless society, conformity or ostracization, etc).

Several times throughout the story when the characters were in different situations I thought about different groups of people throughout the world who have or are currently being persecuted, the people who helped them, those that stood by and watched silently, and those that actively worked to persecute others.

Great cast of characters. Both likable and unlikable. Good vs Evil. The cast of "good guys" were all fantastic characters. Of coarse you can't help but root for those being targeted by the ruling party. Without giving anything away… did you really have to kill that character…that was a gut punch.

Overall the narration was good. Mr. Wolff has a voice that is easy to listen to, even for long periods of time. With more practice he could become a really good narrator. He had some really good character voices. Of coarse the male voices were great. Although there was enough emotion, feeling and inflection in most of the narration that made the characters come to life, at times the narration also seemed flat. I also thought the narration could have flowed a bit more smoothly at times, especially since these are his written words. As I said before overall the narration was good, my personal likes and dislikes about the narration in no way effected my overall enjoyment of the story. I would definitley listen to other books he chooses to narrate in the future.

Different Dystopian

I have to admit I really enjoyed this and different then I thought it was going to be (religious). It initially started at a slow pace then took off. It has a couple of twists as 2 characters had special powers. Zelda used her power to gain presidency and trying to convert all people to follow Materism while Lance a Christian uses his power to fight back so people can believe in the religion they want without being killed.
