Resumen del Editor

This book includes correspondence (and context for understanding it) from Mother Teresa's early years in religious life and throughout her years as founder of a new religious community. This correspondence reveals Mother Teresa's struggles, doubts, and her sense of abandonment by God. These revelations can encourage and strengthen us as she reveals her abiding faith despite darkness and trials.

Missionary of Charity Father Brian Kolodiejchuk met Mother Teresa in 1977 and joined the Missionaries of Charity Fathers at the time of their foundation in 1984. He is postulator of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and director of the Mother Teresa Center.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Mother Teresa's ministry with the poor won her the Nobel Prize and the admiration of a believing world. Her ministry to a doubting modern world may have just begun." (James Martin, S.J., Culture Editor, America magazine)
"Mother Teresa, sick with longing for a sense of the divine, kept faith with the sick of Calcutta. And now, dead for [over] 10 years, she is poised to reach those who can at last recognize, in her, something of their own doubting, conflicted selves." ( The New York Times)
"Saints are not holy for themselves, but for all of us, their sisters and brothers. I believe this book will become a classic in spirituality." (James Van Vurst, O.F.M., St. Anthony Messenger magazine)

Great narrator, beautiful story. I would highly recommend this book. the chapters are long, though.

Makes me think deeply

As I progressed through this I found myself being drawn more deeply into the purpose and struggle of her life. It compels me to reflect on how deeply I am committed to God. And how deeply I am committed to showing and spreading love to all humankind.

Humility

What a gift! Beautiful reading through the season of Lent. St. Mother Teresa truly encapsulates the devotion of being like Jesus for the salvation of the world.

Beautiful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was a beautiful look inside this Godly woman, who was anything but ordinary. She wanted no credit or glory, simply to serve the poorest of the poor.It went through her life and inner thoughts from youth through her life.Inspirational and encouraging to find the light within us all. Even in the darkest nights of her soul, she radiated love and light. She needed no money to feed and bless multitudes.Truly an Ascended Master!

Somewhat interesting insight into her life...

I had to skip chapters since her letters were so utterly redundant. The person who narrated her letters had a creepy voice. Her request for prayers and to be reduced to suffering was stated over and over again. Interesting how a person who brought so much light to others suffered in darkness and emptiness herself.

Remarkable story, idealistic exaltation of suffering, performance melodramatic at times

Worthwhile story of a truly remarkable and honest lady. However the book interprets her suffering as admirable, a gift of God, without questioning whether it was also rooted in Mother Teresa’s personality. It also raises questions about the nature of God whom she felt abandoned her for decades, in order that she could participate in Christ’s sufferings. Shouldn’t our fellowship with Christ’s sufferings be a fellowship with him in the midst of suffering, not an abandonment by him?
The dramatic readings were sometimes forced to sound pious, which I don’t think Mother Teresa would have done.

Such a different life than my own, yet still life-changing for me

At many times throughout this book I kept feeling as if I could not relate to the level of adoration, dedication, humbleness, and obsession that Mother Teresa had for her faith and for Jesus. Yet I found it fascinating nonetheless and was able to apply what I learned from Mother Teresa’s words to my own actions and behaviors in everyday life and in my faith. As a self-proclaimed introvert, since “listening” to this book, I have felt myself desiring to connect more with people both who I know and love, and whom I know nothing about. To smile at them, to bring light to the darkness. There is much to learn from Mother Teresa, even if we have chosen a life that does not resemble her path. A great read for many, even the novice in faith, which I believe myself to be. Of a different note, I found the letters between spiritual leaders to be an interesting insight into the inner workings and hierarchy of the Church. I found the narration to be fine!

Inspiring

An inspiring look into someone who we knew for having done so much good yet we knew so little about the price she paid.

Narration is hard to connect to

I am currently listening to this. The content is great but the narration is lacking. It's almost as if the narrator is trying too hard to sound spiritual or ethereal. Makes it very hard to get into the book
