In this steamy romance by "the mistress of sizzling sensuality" (Romantic Times), eighteen-year-old, defiantly tomboyish Jessie Lindsay is left at the mercy of her wicked stepmother Celia upon the death of her beloved father. Beautiful, vampish Celia can have any man she wants, and when devilishly handsome stranger Stuart Edwards turns up amongst their aristocratic Mississippi plantation society, she wants him.

What Celia doesn't know is that Stuart is a con man and a fortune hunter, and when he marries her it is to gain control of the plantation, Mimosa, that Celia inherited from Jessie's father. Jessie hates Stuart on sight, but he takes pity on the hoydenish young woman and is kind to her. An unexpected friendship develops between Stuart and the spirited, late-blooming Jessie as he steps in to protect her from evil Celia, then helps Jessie transform from an ugly ducking to a swan -- and in the process awakens feelings in Jessie that are like nothing she has ever experienced.

Stuart never imagined that he could fall for Jessie, but the desire that blazes between them is impossible for either of them to resist. Will the dark secret Stuart has been keeping tear them apart as they fall recklessly into a scandalous, forbidden love? Can Jessie trust the man she has come to love with all her heart?

A romantic story, but difficult to listen to… words mispronounced, poor storytelling ability. It almost seemed like a naughty girl reading a forbidden story in the dark. Almost felt ashamed for her. Honestly, the narrator ruined the story.

Poorly Narrated

I didn't like the narrator. She was tolerable enough that I made it through the book. The story was okay if you like the old fashioned romance.

I did not like the narrator, she stumbled through the book and was reading as if she was in fifth grade. The storyline is probably really good but I could not get past listening to the way it was read. I love Karen however this is not one of my favorite books.

I don’t think I can get through this book. The narrator is awful and has mispronounced more words than is normal. She keeps pronouncing “bosom” as “Bo-sum”, among many others. Unfortunately, this is a huge turnoff to a book and I love Karen Robards. Will have to add it to my read/not listen list so it’s going to be a while before I get to it. Disappointed audible! Make sure your narrators know how to read please.

I love this book. It's one of my favorites by Karen Robards. That's why I was so excited to listen to it on Audio Books! That is until I started listening to it. It didn't take long to pick up on the not only adolescant voice, but the teenage performance. The mistakes were so numerous I couldn't even begin to tell you how many there were (the first one I noticed and couldn't get past was when she said Stuart put a "chariat" in his mouth). She repeats herself constantly (which tells me this wasn't edited at all) and is repeatedly mispronouncing common words. Even if they weren't common, I feel if you're going to do this any justice at all--read it beforehand and LEARN the words you don't understand. All-in-all, this book is wonderful! This performance is absolutely awful! I will never listen or purchase another book read by "Ssea Dreams."
