nice listen

I enjoyed but would have liked a little more detailed of how they saw each other in a different light after 5 years of friendship. However, any story with Abby Craden narration is worth listening to. She always does such an amazing job!!!

Very good slow burn

Very good slow burn romance. Cop subject matter research was absolutely exceptional.
Besides, Abby Craden could make an ingredient list sexy.

It felt like I was driving in a roundabout

What I mean by the title, is that the story goes around and around. It comes back to friendship, betrayal, loyalty, love and guilt over and over again without actually driving the story forward. It just felt like the characters were in this perpetual state of childishness and just couldn't decide on what the heck they wanted or how to deal with it. Also, my biggest hurdle to get over, in this story, was: in their 5 years of friendship, not once did that "spark" ever take over? Not once did Melanie ever think "Hey, Evelyne is actually really pretty and kinda fun and i'm actually kinda attracted to her."? Not once did they never even think about it? I call bull, because without that build up, it just becomes this weird uncalled for attraction that warrants rebound instead of everlasting love. Finally, I wished Kendal had some more screen time or was more flushed out! Her character was so damn shallow it was heart breaking. I felt like this book was meant to be written for 3 characters but instead, the reader gets about 1.5, just because the book is more focused on Melanie. Overall, I didn't feel anything for these characters when their climactic love scene played out because it just felt like they did it just because each of them was lonely, which is fine, but for a romance novel, maybe a bit more substance should be involved? Kendal deserved more as a character and should have been more flushed out rather than just become a side character since the plot was heavily focused on their trio friendship. Other than that... I guess I appreciated that there was little to no angst. Abby Craden always does a wonderful job and... if you decide to buy this because Abby Craden is the narrator, I'd strongly suggest spending your credit on something else.
