Resumen del Editor

"Fascinating! An intimate biography...an Insight into a whole era of entertainment!” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Merv Griffin had a way with stars. They loved him, and he’d given that “big break” to countless young hopefuls who became major celebrities, including Sonny and Cher, Dick Cavett, Richard Pryor, and Tony Orlando and Dawn. Merv was one of America’s best-loved TV personalities. Millions of fans were hooked on his sincerity, intelligence, and showmanship. Merv worked hard to get to the top.

Here is the true public, private, and on-stage life of the man who won the hearts of America.

Very disappointing

I didn't realize until I started listening to this that it's simply an updated edition of the author's previous two. That was the first thing that didn't sit well with me.
Also annoying was that almost immediately, there were several references to various people's body weight--and this was before Merv Griffin's own well known weight problems were even mentioned. I can understand the author talking in those terms about Merv's self-admitted struggles, but for it to be pointed out about the others seemed needless and completely out of place.
Then there were the grammar problems--too aggravating to detail here--and the fact that the author went on FAR too long about musical styles of that bygone era. This is not a class on music appreciation.
This book jumps around like a cricket on steroids. For instance, one minute, young Merv's family is suffering after the depression, and the next, he and his sister have been told by their parents to invite two or three friends to join them on vacation.
I may well decide to ask for a refund on this title. I loved Merv Griffin and respected his many, many talents. I truly believe he deserves better than this.
