P&P done with modern, bold strokes, but an abrupt ending.

Katie Cotugno’s Birds of California is one of my favorite books. Jane Austen, of course, is my favorite author. I buy or borrow most Jane Austen remakes, especially of P&P and Persuasion.
I thought this mash-up would be great: I found it not so. Cotugno followed the Pride and Prejudice outline with broad strokes and a modern flair. I found that none of her changes were particularly glaring, but I also lost interest in some of the characters, like June (Jane) and Charley (Charles Bingley). They sort of fell off the plot line into amorphous edges.
The ending was my biggest issue. It was very vaguely hopeful for both couples June/Charley and Lily/Will (Lizzie/Darcy.) The book seemed to end abruptly, like it was rushed, and left me unsatisfied. I’m not sure I’ll read/listen to this again, which is rare for me with this author.
