Mediocre light listening

This audio book was ok. There were a few funny moments, and some memorable characters. Well, at least the cat.
The writing is weak, Narration is passable. The effort the author put into turning the main character into a gelding after meeting the female lead is rather nauseating.
He writes the main female character as a tough, resident, self-made woman who is bossy, condescending, and rude because she's a kayak rental/instructor business owner and has to be that way to save lives.
However, this "tough woman" demands that Walker, the main male character, pay for EVERYTHING, wait on her hand and foot, do all the "heavy lifting," and grunt work. When Walker fails to lavish praise and thanks upon her for having a pulse, she throws a tantrum like some 13 year-old Mean Girls-wannabe and pouts and whines to her sister. Walker, instead of telling her to pound sand and grow up, grovels, blames himself and apologizes like some beta cuck. Some of the "legal" advice doled out by retired Boston PD detective Jack Daniel's, yeah, the author went there, is incorrect and laughable to anyone with a basic understanding of law, law enforcement, or has watched at least 2 seasons of any cop/detective/crime TV type show in their life.
Bill Myers tries to be a Tim Dorsey or Zane Mitchell, and fails.

Great

I have enjoyed the books so much I own all of them. It’s great that the they’re being released in as audiobooks. We need to have the rest of the series on audiobooks.

Feel-good, PG rated, story!

I recently began listening to audible books and just finished Mango Bob by Bill H. Myers and narrated by Mike Steele. In today’s world of violence, foul language, and explicit sex, this was quite refreshing! It is definitely family-friendly, rated PG. My 11-year-old niece can’t wait for Book 2 to come out on Audible!

The main character is John Walker, a mild-mannered man, who finds himself without a job, divorced, and no place to live. At first, he lives in a tent on the river, then he buys an RV from his former employer and goes on an adventure to Florida (from Arkansas) to deliver a cat, Mango Bob, to a friend’s sister. It does take a while to get into the story.

Walker gets drawn into a mystery that involves his new RV, and he meets people along the way who help him get out of trouble. It is a feel-good story and a fun listen!

Mike Steele does a great job of narrating. He has good timing, is engaging, breathes life into the characters, and is a gifted storyteller.

Warning! This book is addictive!

My wife and I started listening to this as we were driving to and from work. It wasn't long until we discovered we were missing turns that were previously automatically taken. We'd drive right by because we were so lost in the story. Then there were times we'd get to where we were going but didn't want to get out of the car. Or we'd get home and discover we'd forgotten to run an errand on the way home.

This book has transformed two previously organized people in to Mango Bob addicts, as well as our 11 year old granddaughter. We are well into the second book of the series (Mango Lucky) and it is feeding our addiction rather nicely.

Our main complaint with the series is that it is taking far too long between books! Pick up the pace guys!

Fun story

Very delightful story brought to life by great narration.
I was drawn to listen intently as the characters progressed thought this adventure.
I look forward to the next journey for this series.

Good story with great narration.

I enjoyed the story and particularly appreciated the clear and expressive narration. I'll definitely be listening to more stories from the Mango Bob series.

15 chapters in and we are still dragging through the somewhat boring details of his everyday life, the main part of the story hasn't even started yet. I'm not sure I can make it much longer if the real story doesn't start soon.

Boring

This first half of the book read more like a guide on how to purchase operate and run a motorhome. The narrator made it sound even worse. Slow boring methodical. Real snore.
