Resumen del Editor

In the latest Ali Reynolds mystery from New York Times best-selling author J. A. Jance, Ali takes to the high seas with her husband.

Roger McGeary, a brilliant software engineer, has gifted himself with an upscale cruise in honor of his 40th birthday. When he falls to his death from the balcony of his stateroom suite, the incident is quickly declared a suicide. Only his maiden aunt, a tough-as-nails woman who runs a racehorse refuge, refuses to take "case closed" for an answer and turns to Ali Reynolds at High Noon Enterprises to look into the situation.

Excellent Read

Got my attention and held it throughout the book. The narrator does a fine job presenting the material.

J.A. Jance has done it again

Another great story, with questions of negative sides of technology and possible dangerous sides to be a aware of.

Same oh, same ooo my

Started out strong and interesting. The suicide premise is difficult especially if you know of someone who committed suicide or attempted it. I love Frig, the artificial intelligence! She had a conscious and an admirable trait. I wish that there was a way to keep her as part of the series to help with tough situations. However, as the saying goes "too smart for your own good" fits Frig. Trust would be an issue. Owen's motive was unclear. Without the appearance of Bob, Edie, the nun and friendly cops, I lost interest and found myself drifting off. When I returned, I didn't miss much. Murder for the sake of killing isn't interesting. Not to be crast, but no one that I cared about died. The psychiatrist was taking the place of the nun. She had a major role, but was not a major character. The lost of Leland to England is a nice way of transitioning him out of the story line. It would be devastating to have him die in one of stories. I am sure we will hear about his passing. He probably will leave a huge amount of money to Ali for the scholarship program. Same formula is that again B is on the other side of the world. (Ali offers the services of High Noon for free. Nice to be rich and investigate crime as a hobby using your spouse's money.). B and Ali talk on the phone. (She must oversee the domestic side of the business.) Whenever Ali is on the telephone she gets another call and has to hang up. She is usually in her SUV. I listened to this story because I like the Ali series. This story might appeal to those who are interested in advanced technology and robotics. Not one of the best in Ali's series. Not sure why it was written unless it was meant to provide a story for Stuart.

Surprisingly BAD

Up to now, I have enjoyed the Ali series. After several failed attempts, I was unable to finish this it was so boring. Most likely will not be purchasing Ali series in the future.

Nice, but..

Nice buildup and structure with a really disappointing ending. Felt that the author was in a hurry to finish the book.

Jance has another hit with Ali Reynolds, et al!!!

I love the Ali Reynolds series and wait, not so patiently, for each new book! The characters are unique and the story line varied. I like that the characters stand on their own and all contribute to the solving of the case!! I do miss Sister Anselm though. She is quite a charter in her on right!

It is nice to have a good story line, a great cast of characters, and a case without all the graphic scenes and sex that so many authors think they have to have to sell books. Janie is good st this in all 3 series I read, including The Joanna Brady books and the Alex Delaware books. Now to see what Alex and Milo are up to in their latest release!!! Back to back Janice!! A real treat!!

A bit disappointed

This is not as good as some of the others in the series in my opinion. A sequel to Man Overboard, but just not a really exciting mystery or solution. I thought Man overboard much more interesting... this book seems a segue to future books, a means to advance Stuart's or others characters for future books.

Pretty good

I am more than willing to suspend belief when reading detective/suspense/mystery novels. Their purpose is escape and if a book succeeds on that score i'm a satisfied customer. "Man Overboard" started out with promise but then it went overboard - pardon the pun. It has a poignant premise - the scars left on the children of suicides.
I have worked as a psychiatric RN in California for many years so I can say with confidence that neither the behavior of the mentally ill characters nor the treatment depicted are remotely believable. For one thing, no one can lock up an adult in a psychiatric facility for 10 years - 10 weeks of involuntary hospitalization is almost a stretch. Also, a person's mental health doesn't deteriorate this rapidly and it is pretty hard to kill yourself by cutting your wrists. JA Jance always has lots of money available for her characters to throw at problems but I hate to have people expecting anything near the quality or personal involvement should they need to avail themselves of psychiatric treatment. If only it could be like this.
Anyway, so I'm a wet blanket. I guess we don't read Jance for the realism.
The story was pretty suspenseful and it was touching to see Stuart make positive strides in his interpersonal behavior so in the long run I wouldn't tell others to skip "Man Overboard" as long as their expectations aren't too high.
