After a bad divorce, Ashley returns to Hallbrook with her four-year-old son to regroup and start over. When her apartment catches fire and the fire department is called in, one of the first responders is David, her older brother’s best friend, and the man who dumped her without any reason when they dated in high school. She accepts his offer of a place to stay, knowing she could trust him with anything other than her heart.

David, a member of the White Mountain Fire Department, is tasked with the controlled burns needed in the NH National Forest after a particularly dry winter and spring. While out marking the territory with Kojak, his Dalmatian, he runs into Ashley, who’s on a mission and quick to tell him how to do his job.

Ashley’s been called upon by the Audubon Society to verify the reported sighting of a pair of eagles and to look for a nest. The eagles are protected under federal law, but without proof they are nesting nearby, David has a job to do. A job that will protect the public far more than protecting an unverified eagle nest. Ashley will do anything to stop him, including seeking an injunction and rallying a protest. Just when David starts to compromise on both the controlled burn and his no-relationship rule, disaster strikes, reminding him why he made the rule in the first place.

David soon realizes his mistake, but will Ashley give him a third chance? And is she does, will the third time be a charm?

Sweet Contemporary Romance

I enjoyed this small town second chance love story. I was confused on why seeing eagles was so important, but I loved how he came face to face with his feelings after talking to his mother!
The narration was very good, and the child voice actor was still the highlight!

A new perspective

Through previous experience David is not willing to risk love. It is understandable with how he has seen it turn out for his parents. He’s been in love with the same girl for a very long time.
Ashley is driven to get the perfect photo to further her career. She’s also determined to protect herself from a lost love.
I could never get the image of Ashley as a lovable main character. She’s egocentric and very selfish although it’s written off as if she is determined. Her hopes override everybody else and she’s quick to be defensive, sharp tongued and accusatory. Not every character needs to be loved in a book so I gave my four stars to the author for her talents in weaving an interesting tale.
The reader for Cory did a great job of a busy, inquisitive young child. Cory had some fun lines and kept the telling light and enthusiastic just like a child would be.

Loved it!

Good storyline and we'll developed characters. Also, I'm a sucker for second chances and am glad David and Ashley will potentially get a shot at theirs. There is a lot of past to get thru as well as current obstacles, will they be able to overcome all?

The narration was well done.

Second Chance Love

Loving this series. Narrator Rachel Butler is amazing. Ashley has come home to Hallbrook to get her life back together after a divorce. While she is waiting on a possible job, she is investigating the possibility of an eagle in the area. Of course, she runs into David, who broke her heart in the past. The two are butting heads, but have to work together. Love the characters and storyline.

Happy 4th!

Perfect for the fourth of July, you could find me listening to this sweet, second chance romance! Ashley has come back home temporarily. A sighting of bald eagles has her searching for the majestic birds and to not only save them, but get the perfect wildlife picture. It may be the one that gets her dream job as a National Geographic photographer. Her son Cody is bright and energetic, not quite school age and enjoying the chance to spend time with his uncle. When their apartment catches fire, David, Ashley's high school boyfriend comes to the rescue. A fireman, he puts it out and offers her and Cody a place to stay. But there is bad blood between these two. The quick dismissal of their relationship by David has left an ache in Ashley's heart that has never healed. Now at odds because of the eagles, the two are butting heads again. But the underlying love is still there. Will it be enough to blossom again? When the truth comes out, will Ashley be able to forgive? And what about the dog? Yes, I have to mention the dog! This is a fun story, a brother's best friend, second chance romance that has patriotism and love. How can you go wrong? I loved their story, the banter, the strong will that Ashley has, the fortitude David has and I can't forget Cody! He will just make the smiles keep coming! It's a great holiday listen!

Rachel Butler continues her narration of this fabulous series. I am enjoying her voices, and know each time I hear her start, I am in for a treat! Lydia is amazing as Cody, bringing that innocence and fun to his character, lighting up the story with his sweet humor! It's a great performance!

Heartwarming

I absolutely loved this story by Elsie Davis. And the audiobooks really brings the story to life. I love the different unexpected characters (not to be a spoiler). Very well done!!!!

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this and if you like contemporary fiction you'll want to listen to it.

The narrator did okay. Very clear. It did take a bit to get used to the constant jerkiness but that's better than monotone.
