First drink. First prank. First friend. First love. Last words.

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet François Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps”. Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young, who will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another. A modern classic, this stunning debut marked number one best-selling author John Green’s arrival as a groundbreaking new voice in contemporary fiction.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"What sets this novel apart is the brilliant, insightful, suffering but enduring voice of Miles Halter." (Chicago Tribune)

"A gem of modern literature." (Guardian)

"What sings and soars in this gorgeously told tale is Green’s mastery of language and the sweet, rough edges of Pudge’s voice." (Kirkus)

There's something very charming and warm about Wil Wheaton's narration voice that allows this book and really any book he narrates to be so inviting and relatable. The content of this story was great. It had me guessing where the plot would turn next, and the complexity and unpredictability of Alaska's character is what kept me reeled in. While I kind of guessed what the twist would be that would resolve the main conflict at the end of the book, I definitely did not see the second twist coming. Satisfying ending and great story.

I am a huge Wil Wheaton fan when it comes to him narrating a story. I think I could listen to him forever. This sounded like a good story and with Wil narrating it I figured I couldn't go wrong. And I didn't. Great story - a bit sad - but honestly, true to life in many ways. Well worth the read.

Wil Wheaton narrating + good story = Winner

I loved the feel of this book. It had the feel of “Stand By Me”/ “Dead Poet Society”. It was a beautiful story that I will read again underlining all the things that spoke to me. The only thing I will miss about reading a physical copy is the narration. It was so so well done.

I so enjoyed this book! I had no idea of the premise prior to starting it, but I’m very glad I did. I absolutely devoured it.

To add to the experience, Will did a wonderful job narrating, as always. He is one of my favourite narrators.

Highly recommend this.

Unexpectedly hooked

I don't know, I never really got into this book. The kids seemed not too bright, chronically unkind and incapable of empathy, and each messed up in different - boring - ways. I just couldn't care what happened to either the first person kid or to Alaska. Love Wil Wheaton as a narrator, but I'd like to be able to rely on his choices of books to narrate.

stopped at The Last Day

Much is made about the incredibly tame “sex scenes” of this book. The thing is, sex is not what’s being sold here. It’s about teen angst over love and yresponsibility. About the power of friendships and the merits of loyalty and duty and scholarship.
It even warns us all about the power of strong drink.

A great book about the Great Perhaps

I watched the series on hulu so i know what’s going to happen but if the book is anything like the show 10/10 so good i wish i had the heart to finish it, the show had me in tears.

breathtaking

This book is a small gift. Not what I expected, at all. I wasn’t sure I needed a coming of age story, but I was in a reading slump and I thought why not. The story is worth the read, not happy, but not depressing but elements of both.

Not at all what I expected
