Resumen del Editor

Rob Finn is joined by William Cody and Lonnie Walters as they begin their journey into the gold country of the west in 1862. They are headed toward Bannack, a town springing up on the banks of Grasshopper Creek, Washington Territory. Soon it would become Idaho Territory, and shortly after that, Montana Territory. But not without the birth pangs that accompany such events.

Rob meets desperate and unscrupulous men such as Henry Plummer, as well as gentle and generous natives who heal and help the strangers in their land. We learn that the treasures of the earth are sought by greedy men on both sides of the Civil War, while lasting friendships are the goal of and reward for precious few hearty souls.

Allan Pinkerton and his staff are along for the journey, as is young William Cody.

An Excellent Look into Pinkertons in the Rush for Gold

Longshot into the West was a narration about Pinkerton detectives assisting the Union during the Civil War. From there the story sometimes rambled. The last part of the book was a much more succinct and enjoyable story. The performance, especially the Irish-American brogue was good.

One of the Best Westerns I've Listened To

The "Longshot" series is by far one of the better western listens. I think Keith R. Baker is a terrific author. He delves the listener right into the old west with the infamous characters and their lives and some of the dire consequences of the Civil war. What really puts this book over the top is the narration.

A.W. Miller's performance is exceptional. He's a wonderfully versatile voice actor with excellent characterization skills. This is a great combination of author/reader.

A good sense of the era.

Interesting historically accurate vignettes about the people, mores, and events of the western civil war era that were cobbled together into a story. It is most compelling in providing a good sense the times, though I wished at times to get to know the characters better through some greater involvement in more involved escapades. A good read for many.
