It is known that a large number of women disguised themselves and enlisted in the service, for one cause or another. Entrenched in secrecy, and regarded as men, they were sometimes revealed as women, by pregnancy or casualty.
This audiobook is a collection of 13 short stories about young women, ages 11 to 24, and what happened to them during the Civil War. Each story is taken from newspaper clippings, reports, and letters written during America’s greatest conflict. Yes, the true events have been fictionalized somewhat to give the characters personality and voice. This audiobook is for listeners interested in true history. It is currently being used by a local university as recommended reading in their history department.
