A Proper and Delightful Listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Ms. Emmes' narration was true to the period. Her voice carried the proper, articulate and delightfulness of each character. It was a pleasure to listen to Little Women. I enjoyed it almost as much as watching it on video. This story is still a classic favorite for me. Thank you Ms. Emmes.

Wonderful book, so-so narrator

This is one of my all-time favorite books, so of course this was a delight to listen to. However, the narrator was certainly not my favorite. She wasn't horrible, but I thought she made all the girls (including Mrs. March) sound much too juvenile, even when they had grown up (they all sounded kind of nasal and annoying). She also had some weird phrasing that was a little distracting at times, and some glaringly bad pronunciation of certain words. Still, it was a joy to listen to. Beautiful, timeless story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Jo. I love her independence and spirit

What about Andrea Emmes’s performance did you like?

I though she did reasonably well with the voices and inflections. there were just a few short parts that could have been a little bit more dramatic (we are talking 4 teenage girls), but over all it was good.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There are already many movies made from this book, but the tag line would have to be the same as the title Little Women

together and a bit of Romance mixed throughout the book. If you haven't read this

Always a moving book, not very well narrated

It had been years since reading this book the first time and I dove in without researching various narrators first. I wish I had invested the many hours of listening such a beautiful narrative with a less whiny narrator.

This is a true classic that has lasted through time. It isn’t a book I have read before but I totally enjoyed the read. This is not my normal read but I found it interesting. Everyone should read this once in their lifetime.

Ms. Emmes did an outstanding job of narration with wonderful character voices that fit the time period. I heard no background noise or any place where the audio volume changed from chapter to chapter. Her voice was clear, crisp and clean. It was easy to know who was talking and what each felt through the emotion given in the narrator’s voice. She really brought the characters to life making you see the pictures of each scene in your mind. I have not listened to anything by this narrator and was thrilled with the audio. I look forward to listening to more from her.

You will definitely not be disappointed with this version of this book

I have read Little women A number of times in my life. This is the second time that I have read it in audio format. I enjoyed the narrator of this book very much she was able to draw me in to the story by the timbre and tone of her voice. I will definitely be looking for more books that she narrates This book was given to me at no cost from the author narrator or publisher for an honest review

Great classic

I always enjoy Little Women. Such a great book. A classic.

I dont personally care for the narrator. She did a very good job but her voice is to childlike, it constantly bothered me.

Nostalgia brought me to it, emotions kept me going

This was such a nostalgic experience for me. Little Women is one of the first classics I read, and it was the very first time I read a book in anticipation of seeing a movie. Afterwards, my mom took me to Barnes and Noble to buy my own collectible edition since I'd borrowed one from the library.
This particular version is a great full length production, rather than an abridged version as with many audiobook classics. The narrator's strengths were the older girls, as I did have a hard time when she was doing younger voices. It was almost grating, but it didn't last and things smoothed out later on in the book too. She was also able to impart much of the emotions which are the core of this novel, of sisterhood, heartbreak and lost dreams. Of first loves, difficult choices, and hoping for things to turn out okay.
If you're wanting to reread a favorite book, or pick up Little Women for the first time, an audiobook is the perfect solution for an experience you won't forget!
