Summary –

Sofia must stop a spree of murders in her exclusive hotel before she becomes the next victim. Sofia runs one of the top resorts in Cancun. She works tirelessly to make it THE destination spot. When guests rave about what a glorious place it is, she feels proud. All of her hard work, though, goes up in smoke when a rash of devious abductions/killings take place. Now, she’s balancing the police, calming guests down, and saving the resort from ruin. Not knowing if the killer is an employee, guest, or local, she treads carefully. Partnering with a visiting professor, together they investigate. The police focus on the professor and his motives so Sofia must determine if he is in fact the killer or if the killer is someone else. With time running out and the killer setting its sights on Sofia, will she catch the killer in time?

Pam Tsujioka’s voice is clear, crisp, and evokes emotion. Her voice fits with the genre and I found myself envisioning the story as she narrated.

Yes, Pam uses classic inflection techniques to make the story come alive.

Pam’s reading style is leisurely which sets the tone for the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the creepy parts.

Pam propels the plot with perfect pacing and immersive vocal nuances.

The flow of the audiobook is smooth, and I didn’t notice any gaps or stutters. I got engrossed in the story so that when it ended, I wanted it to keep going.

An Interesting Start... Kept My Attention

I don't normally pull up other reviews before I write mine unless I wasn't 100% sure how I felt about a book. Little Girl Scream was one of those books for me. Now, don't get me wrong - it wasn't the case where I didn't like it but I wanted to make sure that other people didn't like it also - I enjoyed it. But there were a few things, things that I couldn't put my finger on that made it not a 5-star review from me. And honestly, after reading the other reviews from friends and colleagues, I feel like I'm the odd person out.

Little Girl Scream, once I got past the cover that makes my stomach turn - was an interesting book. The authors did a good job writing a book that had lots of twists and turns but also kept me interested enough to stick around to figure out the why of a lot of the things that were going on. Boy and Carod really had a knack for writing characters that jumped off of the page and honestly that's where this books biggest strength lays.

Going into this, based on the cover alone, I thought this was going to be a horror novel - but in reality, it's a thriller that has some aggressive scenes, especially in the beginning,  but nothing that was completely out of the ordinary. I have not read Al E. Boy's children's book and after reading this I almost don't know how they could write a children's book. This book definitely had scenes in it where I think "wait, they wrote what, too?"

Overall, I thought that Little Girl Scream was darn close to being a 5-star book, and honestly it'll likely end up rounding up to a 5-stars anyway. I just have to be a bit picky even though I can't place my finger on the thing or things that took away a .5 from me.

Totally and Completely WOW!

Imagine the most elaborate, guest-oriented hotel in Cancun – the sunsets, the people, the sun, the beach, the serial killer roaming unrestrained, and you have a terrifying thriller that will give you nightmares!

From the first minute, Al E. Boy and F. Carod, the authors wove a delicate web of deceit, intrigue, and horror. A young 14-year-old boy is found murdered, other guests and members of the staff are disappearing only to be found bloody, tortured, and/or murdered. There is more to this story than meets the eye and it is Boy’s usual and methodical storytelling method that keeps the listener spellbound.

Boy and Carod time the developing of each character slowly and at different times, some come at the very end of the book which makes this story even more riveting! I listened to this book last week and have spent the past few days thinking about it – not that I had a choice! Boy & Carod know how to capture and hold the audience’s attention well after the story ends.

While I have enjoyed Boy’s other books, The Adventures of Fawn, this book is so much darker than one would expect. I was stunned. I loved it! I enjoyed the dark twisted mind that created this story, that teased out each detail, and the slow final reveal.

The narrator, Pam Tsujioka, as usual, gave a wonderful performance! She assumed each character and performed them professionally. Tsujioka is one voice actor that I love to hear. She interjected the perfect amount of fear, anger, doubt, and other emotions that ran rampant throughout this book. Her voice is very versatile!

I look forward to more books in this genre by Boy and performed by Tsujioka! This is not for the faint of heart but rather perfect for anyone who loves a thriller!

Gripping and unsettling

Little Girl Scream is the first book in the Misadventures Memoirs series of heart-pounding thrillers by Al E. Boy and F. Carod. For those of you who don’t know already, Al E. Boy is the reputable author of the children’s award-winning series The Adventures of Fawn, which I enjoyed tremendously in the last few months. But, with this new novel, he steps away from entertaining children in order to strike fear into the hearts of the adult audience.

Right from the beginning I realized that this will be a captivating adventure for that part of me who is always delighted by a good thriller. After a bloody opening scene, which reminded me that ”we are not in Kansas anymore”, the action moves to a new city and everything seems to be just fine. An exotic location, a high priced hotel where guests feel like they died and gone to heaven, an eccentric hotel manager, a mysterious guest, employees trained to deliver the best service possible. But when guests begin to disappear and are found dead soon thereafter, things start to crumble in this seemingly perfect paradise.

The audiobook version of Little Girl Scream is brought to life by the talented narrator Pam Tsujioka. She delivers this chilling mystery thriller in a calm and relaxed voice, taking her time with each character and scene. I really enjoyed her performance for this novel and for other audiobooks. Pam Tsujioka is a professional in every meaning of that word, with a clear talent for bringing to life a large range of characters with different voices and accents.

Little Girl Scream will keep you glued to your headphones for the entire duration of the audio production and will leave you wanting for more. Beautifully written, exquisitely performed, Little Girl Scream delights the listener with a captivating story and manages to avoid all the clichés associated with this sort of books.
