Our only hope for survival is to make it to the Tower, where we'll be safe behind walls with a group of survivors just like us.

That is, if we can outrun the creatures hunting us because safety is really only an illusion.

2 Years Later

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Being the second of a duo, I'd highly recommend reading the first one to get the full story. This one takes place a couple of years after the events of the first novel. I enjoyed the adventure and turmoil the two lovebirds experience and Winters' writing is excellent throughout, keeping a firm grasp on the tension and releasing a bit to shed some light on the loving connection the two have. I like seeing that they got some sweet moments with each other amidst the looming dangerous situations. However, I thought Ray would be more accustomed to the danger and be, overall, more prepared for surviving. I would have loved to see her as a fighter instead of the "damsel in distress". I also thought they should have become more cynical of people in that time frame instead of just accepting them into your group. It just felt like only a few weeks had passed since the first novel because the characters hadn't grown or developed much. I still think it ended well and would recommend reading both books!

I enjoyed Summerville's narration as Ray, but I feel like Jace's voice needed some work. I generally don't like when female narrators try for a too-deep, gruff voice when narrating a male's lines.

Great series

Great sequel. I enjoyed this series so much. Loved seeing the characters grow and mature. Garcia was a new favorite.
Good clean series for young adults and beyond. I would recommend this to anyone who like apocalyptic stories and stories of survival.
Narration by Shaina Summerville was perfect

A thrilling read!

This is the end of the beginning...

A very intriguing, interesting and different read with a fabulous conclusion. I was hooked from beginning to the end.

I had the most amazing time listening to this novel.

Great ending

This follow up book tells the world after many have fallen to the illness. I enjoyed this book just as much, and loved the ending. It wrapped up nicely.

Great Ending to a Great Duology

I really, really enjoyed this book. I don’t really have any complaints except that I don’t like some of the voices the narrator uses. That being said, she still showed a great range of emotion and really brought the book to life. I don’t know what else to say except, read this duology. It is a fantastic post-apocalyptic story that leaves you satisfied yet, wishing you could read more. I was given this book for free at my request in exchange for my honest opinion from Audiobook Boom.

Very Imaginative

This is loaded with imagery and problem solving techniques. These characters will make you wonder what you'd do in their situation. Ray is one strong individual who isn't afraid to lead. She's not a damsel in distress, she's the knight who saves the day! Jace is extremely intelligent and yet he follows Ray because he knows that he can depend upon her in a world that isn't his. I loved the way in which these two treat each other and how they are determined to keep each other alive. The narrator is wonderful!

Light

I believe Ali Winters is one of the best fantasy authors around. She has a way of making her readers feel as if they are a part of the story; she pulls you into the emotional journey that these characters go through. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Jace and Ray would survive. I felt their struggles and despair. The narrator's voice for Ray was perfect, but I didn't care for her voice for the other characters. I thought she struggled giving distinct voices to the other characters. To me, she made all the other characters sound alike. There were times I didn't know if it was Jace or Phillip speaking. Overall the story was excellent.

Love the Post Apocalyptic premise!

Enjoyed the narrator’s main voice; her voice for Ray. Her male voice for Jace needs a little work; too nasally, but I really enjoyed the listening experience. She did a great job.

I’d recommend reading the first book before this one for the full story. This book picks up 2 years after the events of the first book. Ray and Jace are trying to survive in a post apocalyptic world with Runners (think zombies but not quite) on the loose and looking to kill. There’s those you can trust, but also those that are out just for themselves. Ray and Jace often find themselves in plenty of dangerous situations. I really enjoy the adventure and the survivor mentality needed for surviving in this post apocalyptic world. Makes for a fun read and totally love this type of premise. The suspense and danger are great!

Love that Jace and Ray are still connected; love how sweet they are with each other and how protective they are of each other. Too cute! I wanted more of them! They have a heartfelt connection.

What kept this from being 5 stars for me was that I felt Ray should’ve been way better at surviving after the 2 year time jump from the end of the first book than she was. 2 years is a long time, so I felt Ray should’ve been a bit more warrior than damsel, but that wasn’t the case. I just feel they should’ve been further along; have accomplished more. I also wanted Ray to speak up more and to not just go with the status quo; not be so accepting of people just disrespecting Her and Jace. I wanted more in the ending too; like what was going on with Russ’ (I think that was his name) attitude, and more focus on the alien aspect of the story.

Still a totally entertaining story! Post apocalyptic stories are one of the top of my favorites to read. A fun, interesting series! Good times!

Just as enjoyable as it's predecessor. It was well worth listening to, and look forward to more of the author's audio books.

Worth Waiting for

Love this story rae and have are so amazing together and garcia and phillip love love love only downside was narrators voice i couldn’t get into it due to the narrator but other than that loved it.
