The Sound and the Fury is the tragedy of the Compson family, featuring some of the most memorable characters in literature: beautiful, rebellious Caddy; the manchild Benjy; haunted, neurotic Quentin; Jason, the brutal cynic; and Dilsey, their black servant. Their lives fragmented and harrowed by history and legacy, the character’s voices and actions mesh to create what is arguably Faulkner’s masterpiece and one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century.

One of William Faulkner’s finest novels, As I Lay Dying, originally published in 1930, remains a captivating and stylistically innovative work. The story revolves around a grim yet darkly humorous pilgrimage, as Addie Bundren’s family sets out to fulfill her last wish: to be buried in her native Jefferson, Mississippi, far from the miserable backwater surroundings of her married life.

The year is 1327. Franciscans in a wealthy Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, and Brother William of Baskerville arrives to investigate. But his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths that take place in seven days and nights of apocalyptic terror. The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

One day, 14-year-old Sophie Amundsen comes home from school to find two notes in her mailbox, with one question on each: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" From that irresistible beginning, Sophie becomes obsessed with questions that take her far beyond what she knows of her Norwegian village. Through those letters, she enrolls in a kind of correspondence course, covering Socrates to Sartre, with a mysterious philosopher, while receiving letters addressed to another girl.

Entertaining! And it's just five minutes!
I never thought you could talk about Faulkner's ability to write in 5 minutes, but they (the Audible Staff) have made a pretty good job condensing some of the things that distinguish the author from his peers, and they leave you wanting more! A fun and entertaining idea!

Great book
Where does Light in August Free Bonus: Faulkner in 5 Minutes! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I think this book is fairly good. It just told you facts and didn't add any extra info. I think they should of added more info and just make the book a bit longer.
Would you recommend Light in August Free Bonus: Faulkner in 5 Minutes! to your friends? Why or why not?
I wouldn't because it sounded like it wasn't the most detailed book. Add some more info and make it a bit longer.
Which character – as performed by Oliver Wyman – was your favorite?
There really was none.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, mostly because it is only 5 minutes. If they added more info I would also would of listened to this in one sitting if the beginning was good?
Any additional comments?
Nope.
