Resumen del Editor

A compelling alternate-history novel by the breakout author of WWII-era alternate history Himmler's War and Rising Sun

The British win the American Revolutionary War, and a desperate Washington and the American founders must make a last stand in an enclave called Liberty.

In 1781, George Washington's attempt to trap the British under Cornwallis at Yorktown ends catastrophically when the French fleet is destroyed in the Battle of the Capes. The revolution collapses, and the British begin a bloody reign of terror. A group of rebels flees westward and sets up a colony near what is now Chicago. They call it Liberty. The British, looking to finish what they started, send a very large force under Burgoyne to destroy them. Burgoyne is desperate for redemption and the Americans are equally desperate to survive.

Had the Battle of the Capes gone differently, a changed, darker New World would have been forced into existence. But even under those dire circumstances, Liberty may still find a way!

Boring sex interludes but an interesting story

Well constructed story with excellent narration. I felt like I was right there in the middle of the conflict. I must be getting old because the sex didn't bring anything to the story. it was like watching a tv program waiting for the commercials to end.

Very Enjoyable

The narration was great all throughout and as my first book from Robert Conroy, I was thoroughly pleased. Wish I could have listened to it in one sitting!

Too much sex, needed more action

An interesting alt-history of the American Revolution. Sadly, it contained too many sex scenes and not enough action to keep my attention. The narrator has an odd cadence to his readings and it's sometimes difficult to discern characters or when the scenes change.

An interesting alternative

Liberty: 1784 is, at times, an interesting alternative history as to what would have happened had the colonies not defeated the English at the Battle of Yorktown. Unfortunately the narration, although well performed, is so quiet that the book is hard to hear at many places. Overall the book is formulaic with an abrupt, rabbit in the hat, save at the end. Sigh, I had expected more.

Good story, nice pacing, mediocre performance.

The story is a very entertaining one, one of the many “what-ifs” that history buffs like to fawn over. Story wise, the author did a superb job in showing a darker North America in the 1780s should the British Army have beaten the Continental Army. From the characters and their personal conflicts, to the broader world itself. However, I cannot give the narrator the same praise. Despite his uncanny ability to give a moody and melancholic tone, that is all he does. Even in times when dialogue should be more stern or even in the rarest circumstances joyful, his voice gives the listener the impression that he’s listening to a teen getting picked on by a class bully rather that an experienced Continental Army officer negotiating with a general in the British army. This was and is, to date, my first time listening to this narrator, so I give him the benefit of the doubt. But regardless, I think this would’ve been more impactful should either this narrator put more feeling and emotion in his characters, or had one that could’ve done so originally. Either way, a solid 7/10 for me.

Outstanding alternate tale on American History.

I didn't expect much from this book, Boy I was wrong, Bang Bang, Spies, Battles, Love, Hate, Indians it has it all If you have a general knowledge of the characters surrounding the American Revolution. This book it for you the British are not coming. They are here. Imagine Washington being captured and we loose the war. All the major American Hero characters life would follow a different path. Not to mention the English Generals. Wonderful story only drawback is a very minor issue with narration. But not enough to drop a full star.
This is a good book to add to your collection.

Outstanding

This is what alternate history should be. Robert Conroy absolutely mastered this story and Bronson Pinchot delivers a great performance.
