Acerca de esta escucha
When children are late in hitting developmental milestones, parents worry. And no delay causes more parental anxiety than late talking, which is associated in many parents' minds with such serious conditions as autism and severe intellectual disability. In fact, as children's speech expert Stephen Camarata points out in this enlightening book, children are late in beginning to talk for a wide variety of reasons. For some children, late talking may be a symptom of other, more serious problems; for many others, however, it may simply be a stage with no long-term complications.
Camarata describes in accessible language what science knows about the characteristics and causes of late talking. He explains that today's greater awareness of autism, as well as the expanded definition of autism as a "spectrum" of symptoms, has increased the chances that a late-talking child will be diagnosed - or misdiagnosed - with autism. But, he reminds us, late talking is only one of a constellation of autism symptoms.
Although all autistic children are late talkers, not all late-talking children are autistic. Camarata draws on more than 25 years of professional experience diagnosing and treating late talkers - and on his personal experience of being a late talker himself and having a late-talking son. Camarata offers parents valuable guidance on seeking treatment, advising them to get second and third opinions if necessary and warning them against false diagnoses, unqualified practitioners, and ineffective therapies. He provides information that will help parents navigate the maze of doctors, speech therapists, early childhood services, and special education; and he describes the effect that late talking may have on children's post-talking learning styles.

Early and social interaction skills are essential for every child to get the best start in life. Skills like language, eye contact, and self-regulation are just some of the things your child needs in order to excel - personally and academically! Since the pandemic, both parents and teachers are becoming more concerned about children’s abilities to interact. On top of that, there are delays in referrals to specialists. As early interaction is so important, you are probably thinking that you don’t have the qualifications to make a difference. This is not true!

Historia
The quest for social justice is a powerful crusade of our time, with an appeal to many different people, for many different reasons. But those who use the same words do not always present the same meanings. Clarifying those meanings is the first step toward finding out what we agree on and disagree on. From there, it is largely a question of what the facts are. Social Justice Fallacies reveals how many things that are thought to be true simply cannot stand up to documented facts, which are often the opposite of what is widely believed.

A step-by-step guide on how to help children develop language and speaking skills. The verbal behaviour (VB) approach is a form of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) that is based on B. F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behaviour and works particularly well with children with minimal or no speech abilities. In this book Dr. Mary Lynch Barbera draws on her own experiences as a board-certified Behaviour Analyst and also as a parent of a child with autism to explain VB and how to use it.

Historia
This reissue of Thomas Sowell’s classic study of decision making, which includes a preface by the author, updates his seminal work in the context of The Vision of the Anointed. Sowell, one of America’s most celebrated public intellectuals, describes in concrete detail how knowledge is shared and disseminated throughout modern society. He warns that society suffers from an ever-widening gap between firsthand knowledge and decision making—a gap that threatens not only our economic and political efficiency but our very freedom.

Autism therapy typically focuses on ridding individuals of “autistic” symptoms such as difficulties interacting socially, problems in communicating, sensory challenges, and repetitive behavior patterns. Now Dr. Barry M. Prizant offers a new and compelling paradigm: The most successful approaches to autism don’t aim at fixing a person by eliminating symptoms, but rather seeking to understand the individual’s experience and what underlies the behavior. Rather than curb these behaviors, it’s better to enhance abilities, build on strengths, and offer supports.

A good read. Calmed my nerves about my son
Gave a lot of perspective around the late talking, and a lot of things to watch out for
But stops short of giving much actionable advice on what to do to encourage talking.
It mostly concludes - either is a (highly unlikely) serious problem, or just be calm and carry on, it'll sort itself out.
That said, I did learn a lot and do suggest the read.

I have a late-talking boy - this is a great book
This book was very well narrated.
The content helped me with my late-talking child and helped me deal with my son and help him through very difficult times. There is so much jargon related to late talking, every parent needs this book to assist them in being an advocate for their late talker. You can't just put yourself in the hands of experts, you need to be advocate and pusher for their interests and needs.
I not only like this book, I appreciate the book, and I appreciate the work that Dr. Camarata accomplished for these children.
It made a difference for me and my family.

Even if your child isn't late talking, this is a good book that shares insight on how you are the best advocate for your child. To make sure the right person is diagnosing your child. I'm so grateful to have found this book before the school district observes him. Now I know which questions to ask and to make sure I get a 2nd opinion on medical matters.
