Resumen del Editor

More than a mere overview, the audiobook offers listeners a strong grounding in the basic principles of Jung's analytical psychology in addition to illuminating insights.

"Probably the best one-volume English language summary of Jung's thought." (Choice)

"Himself a widely regarded analyst, Stein presents Jung's major theoretical contributions in language as uncomplicated as the subject allows...Aimed at the general reader but sufficiently academic for the specialist, this is an excellent basic book on the subject." (Booklist)

"Writing for the general reader, Stein provides an outline of Jung's basic concepts that is clearly written and indicates some of the distinctions between Jung's thinking and Freud's." (Publishers Weekly)

This narration is torture! The book is great though

I think this book is very well written, Love the book.

But the narrator's voice and the way he reads it was awful.

Great Content, Rough Narration

The content of this book is incredible. Such a great intro to Jung. But the narration is brutal. I considered trading it back in for a while. The content kept me hooked however. And eventually I was able to (mostly) ignore the reading by the narrator.

Very Informative

I found it to be a hard book to read but I was able to comprehend the subject matter. I will continue reading Car Jung books as they are very much in tune with life as it is. I learned things about myself and others that are close to me through reading this book. Thank You.

emotionally inept narrator

this review requires 15 words at least so I am just speaking into my phone until I reach it.

Jung’s Map of the Soul

I became interested in this book because of the band BTS who have a new album series based around Jung’s ideas and psychology. I decided to read this book in order to deeper understand why they chose this subject matter. Now I understand! Jung’s psychology is immensely fascinating! I never thought much of the human mind and thought I knew everything about the ego, the conscious and unconscious, and I didn’t know any of it, apparently! Diving deeper into the unknown ways of the mind and getting to the core of the psyche and finding parallels to myself or people around me was so interesting. I suggest this book to anyone who wants a deeper understanding into their own psyche or just a general interest!

Intensely rich piece of work

All you ever wanted to know about Jung. Start here. Each sentence is packed densely with profound elaboration on Jung’s major theories. The narrator (actually Stein or not?) does a first class job…you need to listen very closely though, or you’ll miss something.

I had never really trusted in what Jordan Peterson often refers to as Jung’s genius. He seem more a fanciful character in the psychological world. This is a completely impoverished view that this book thoroughly corrected. I can almost see a direct thread - which is acknowledged - from Schopenhauer to Jung to Richard Schwartz Internal Family Systems. The inner universe of self is gigantic, this much I learned here, by spending a few days listening to this book.

This may be one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read (or listened to…well, you get what I mean)…you will understand What Jung was about so much better after going through this book.

I must admit though, Jung does get very very esoteric and at some points I simple cannot understand what to make of some of his later and most advanced theories (or observations, or creations…it is not easy to select the right descriptor), however I now do
understand why Jung is a must-study figure, if one wishes to be knowledgeable in humanistic psychology (I’m probably not naming it correctly)…but anyway, he is a luminary and you’ve just got to get his thought somehow. It would be like never know anything about Nietzsche, Heidegger, Beethoven (neither Ludwig van nor “Roll-over”), nor ever reading Hemingway nor John Steinbeck…you would be really missing out.

The problem has been that Jung’s writing is so difficult! I can’t make it through his books. I am a pretty good reader, but holy moly is he a steep climb. And there’s endless obscure references and Latin and other archaic phrasings added in every page, I just never could make it through each 600 or 700 page volumes.

Murray Stein pulls it all together for you here so you will be able to get it. Thanks Murray.

Now, what am I to do about this individuation business…it’s still no easy thing, at least I now know what I don’t know. That’s progress.

Great

I liked how the narrator is quick yet comprehensive, although at times the subject gets complicated and one has to stop what they're doing and refocus. I think this has to do more with the content itself rather than the delivery, but I'm not sure.

Poor narration destroys a good book— again

The book is good I’m sure. But it’s rendered unbearable with this tuneless droning that sounds as though the narrator doesn’t so much as register the meaning of the words he speaks. The point of Audible is that you can hear a book when you’re unable to see and read it yourself. If that’s the whole purpose why is there so little interest in finding people who read well??? Hope I can return it but what a shame! Do better, please.

Murray Stein….

Murray Stein is a great tour guide of Jung. A gifted analyst, he is also a gifted interpreter of Jung who is able to bring Jung’s complex ideas and visions into understandable focus and clarity.
