Resumen del Editor

An incredible look at one of the Enlightenment’s most influential figures.

Credited as the Father of Liberalism and revered for his ground-breaking theories, John Locke left behind a legacy which has radically shaped political and philosophical thought for over 300 years. His writings continue to inspire and educate people to this day, from founding our central ideas of consciousness and knowledge to creating a framework for society which greatly influenced America’s founding fathers.

Now this collection presents two of his most important works for modern readers and listeners, offering a unique glimpse into the mind of this philosophical giant. It covers John Locke’s ideas on knowledge, the human mind, introspection, politics, and much more.

Inside this collection, you’ll discover:

  • An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, which explores the universal themes of knowledge and rationality, giving rise to a central foundation of empiricism which shaped the work of countless philosophers for generations
  • Two Treatises of Government, a powerful refutation of monarchy and the creation of a rights-based vision for a future society which 17th-century Europe would have seen as revolutionary

Perfect for fans of philosophy, political thought, and the Enlightenment period, this riveting collection will open your eyes and provide you with an illuminating new perspective of fundamental human nature.

Incomplete

Well read and easy to listen to. However, Essay Concerning Human Understanding is just the first two books. Books 3 and 4 are missing so look elsewhere if you want the whole thing.

Very interesting to hear

The entire entity itself was very interesting, though the reading itself was a bit dry. I felt as though I was listening to a lecture in college. Aside from that, John Locke has some interesting ideas based on the way we, as humans, understand the world around us. I found it particularly interesting in book 2, when he talked about children and their perception of the world. It gave me a new outlook on my daughter, niece, and nephew, and how they register and think about things around them.

I’d say overall, if you don’t mind listening to a regular speaking tone, then this is for you. The information in the 4 books, is very interesting and thought provoking. John Locke must have been a great leader in his time. He has deep insight to the human mind, and great perception and self awareness. It was full of interesting facts and ideas that are used to shape the world of psychology and human development today.

As for the Treaties of Government, I thought he was spot on about how the government is highly corrupt. He talks of slavery and other heavy topics of the time. I find him very enjoyable and I love how he calls out Sir Robert. That was great stuff. He has very strong opinions and I find them spot on and entertaining. He ready should have been a lawyer instead of a physician. He is the proof that liberalism exists.

Bad Narrator

I could have gotten a pdf and had Siri read this book. It was a struggle to get through. I'm sure there was some good information but it was lost due to low production value.
