Resumen del Editor

About the audiobook: David Fitzgerald’s award-winning 2010 book Nailed: Ten Christian Myths That Show Jesus Never Existed at All pointed out the top 10 fatal flaws of Christianity’s origin story. Now, Jesus: Mything in Action presents the most compelling new findings in Jesus myth theory and critically examines its controversial reception by biblical scholars, the extent and reliability of our sources for Jesus, and the surprising history behind Jesus’ evolution.

In this volume: Mything in Action, Vol. II (chapters 13-18) discusses the changing Jesus from even before the earliest Christians, to Paul, to the book of Hebrews, to the Gospels and beyond: the construction (and deconstruction) of the Gospels; how Jesus is presented in the rest of the New Testament; and an examination of the historical sources for Jesus outside of the Bible.

It all makes sense now

Religious bible study never actually reveals anything other than “the mystery of faith”. After the Mything in Action series, I understand that reading the bible from the frame of historicity is like trying to understand Spider-Man by reading Superman comics. But if you read from the frame of a time when mystery faiths were all the rage, and Jews were reluctant to leave the annual temple sacrifice system because they feared their souls being unclean, it all makes too much sense that a Jewish mystery faith would peddle the idea that God sacrificed his own firstborn son (the ultimate sacrifice) on behalf of believers and that this would replace the need to sacrifice animals year after year. Of course this happened in outer space. Of course that’s why the earliest Christian writings say nothing about an earthly Jesus. And of course a mystery religion would eventually have someone historicize this Jesus as a series of allegories with cosmic truths revealed as the believer gets deeper into the religion. It’s essentially the same structure as Scientology.

An interesting discussion of the subject

Fitzgerald presents an interesting surface view of the evidence. It’s an interesting case he presents and is worth further review and discussion. He isn’t a full scholar on the subject but is someone interested in the subject and does a good job discussing it from that point of view. I recommend Richard Carrier if you enjoy this series.

Faith reinforced

So much information, and I as a very liberal Christian, Iove his work read the whole series thus far, this one is best. This series reinforced my belief that the whole book is myth. My Christian faith is based on the Same Thing Paul's was.

Liked this even more than Vol 1!

There is a deeper secret to be learned about Christianity, and for those who are curious, this series of books will point the direction. Seriously, this is much more interesting than all the Dan Brown stuff.

David Fitzgerald doesn't disappoint!

I enjoyed this book. It's very detailed, easy to follow, and I love that the author read it. Will listen to it again to soak in all the information given here.

All of David's Mything Books Are Awesome

I've read all of David's mything books and love them. They are increadibly well-researched and constructed to form a very convincing explanation as to why there is no support for a historical Jesus.
