Acerca de esta escucha
On November 22, 1963, the 35th president of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and his wife Jackie were taking part in a presidential motorcade through Dallas. Thousands lined the streets cheering; others hung out of windows to catch a glimpse of the much-loved First Lady and President.
Suddenly, the unthinkable happened. Three shots rang out. In front of the world, John F. Kennedy was fatally wounded. Lee Harvey Oswald was caught. But did he pull the trigger? Who really killed JFK? Fifty years after the tragic events in Dallas, JFK: The Smoking Gun solves the ultimate cold case. With the forensic eye of a highly regarded ex-cop, Colin McLaren has gathered the evidence, studied 10,000 pages of transcripts, and found the witnesses the Warren Commission failed to call, and the exhibits and testimonies that were hidden - until now.
JFK: The Smoking Gun proves, once and for all, who killed the President. And the answer is far more shocking than any fanciful conspiracy could ever be.

Historia
In 1967, a Baltimore man named Howard Donahue began investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Like countless Americans, Donahue was fascinated by the events in Dallas. But what separated him from other amateur sleuths, and even the Warren Commission experts, was a lifetime's experience with guns and ballistics. In Mortal Error, Bonar Menninger chronicles Donahue's 25-year investigation of President Kennedy's death and the stunning revelation it led him to.

November 22, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the tragedy that has haunted America ever since. For the first time, this concise and compelling book pierces the veil of secrecy to fully document the small, tightly-held conspiracy that killed President John F. Kennedy. It explains why he was murdered, and how it was done in a way that forced many records to remain secret for almost 50 years. Working with thousands of previously unreleased documents and drawing on more than one thousand interviews, with many witnesses speaking out for the first time, Joan Mellen revisits the investigation of New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison, the only public official to have indicted, in 1969, a suspect in President John F. Kennedy's murder. Garrison began by exposing the contradictions in the Warren Report, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was an unstable pro-Castro Marxist who acted alone in killing Kennedy.

At the height of the Cold War, JFK risked committing the greatest crime in human history: starting a nuclear war. Horrified by the specter of nuclear annihilation, Kennedy gradually turned away from his long-held Cold Warrior beliefs and toward a policy of lasting peace. But to the military and intelligence agencies in the United States, who were committed to winning the Cold War at any cost, Kennedy's change of heart was a direct threat to their power and influence.

For decades, government pundits have dismissed these "coincidental" deaths, even regarding them as "myths" as "urban legends." Like most people, Richard and David were initially unsure about what to make of these 'coincidences'. After all, events don't "consult the odds" prior to happening; they simply happen. Then someone comes along later and figures out what the odds of it happening were. Some of the deaths seemed purely coincidental; heart attacks, hunting accidents.

For half a century, people have debated the Kennedy assassination. Some claim that the Warren Commission got it right - that Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, a lone-nut assassin. Others contend that Kennedy was killed as part of a conspiracy. It is not the purpose of this book to engage in that debate. The purpose of this book is simply to focus on what happened at Bethesda Naval Hospital on the evening of November 22, 1963.

'It might not be in your lifetime,' said the Chief Justice of the United States when asked whether the files on the assassination of President Kennedy would be made public. If the President was killed by a lone gunman, as the first official enquiry claimed, why can we still not see all relevant records? Fifty years on and the murder of the century remains unsolved. Drawing on thirty years of investigation, Anthony Summers examines the case in compelling, forensic detail.

Facts, Facts, & nothing but the Facts!
If you could sum up JFK: The Smoking Gun in three words, what would they be?
The truth was directly in front of our face all along.
What other book might you compare JFK: The Smoking Gun to and why?
SCIENCE WAS WRONG by Stanton Friedman and Kathleen Marden
Another telling book based on pure facts and empirical evidence.
Which scene was your favorite?
The total chaos in the Dallas ER room where the Secret Service agent breaks the FBI's agent's jaw with his sub-machine gun. All this while FBI agent is trying to collect crime scene evidence.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Some accidents are better left untold.
Any additional comments?
I have read and researched the JFK assassination from numerous different angles, this is the first account that I have read - that actually ONLY relies on literally "just the facts". Maybe in 1962, it wasn't in the best interest of our country to expose the gross negligence of our Secret Service personnel, but the cover up is over 50 years dead, and it is time to tell the truth. I also find it an absolutely amazing feat, also on the Secrete Service - the lengths they went through to cover up their incredible accident.

significant insight but no wrap up
The book presents a fair background of the assassination, terrific argument that there had to be at least a second gun, and also well presented that bullet fragments in Kennedy's head were strong evidence of a different kind bullet that that from Oswald's gun. I don't remember him repeating the idea that Lyndon Johnson was very concerned that if the story made any inference that the Soviet Union might be involved there would be demands for war. This could easily lead to literally trying to convict anyone who looked unaided. The book does point out that much information seems to be ignored and many witnesses were never called to testify by the Commission. In treating Jack Ruby the author ignores his connection with the Mafia and focuses on Ruby's strong affection for the Kennedy. The second gun is presented as being held by an occupant of one of the processions cars-a man named Hickey. The author does not say that Hickey was accused of involvement but counter sued. One strong piece of evidence use was the smell of gun smoke at ground level. Oswald's gun account not have put smoke on the ground ina short time. I am happy to have found the book and appreciate much of it.

A Curious Theory -- What Really Killed Kennedy
This is a most curious book about the Assassination of John F. Kennedy The self-described detective McClaren worked on this material relentlessly. The first half is hard to take. I am something.of a JFK reseearcher. My focus is in Chapter 6 of the book "Hit List" by Richard Belzer..about the dead witnesses to the murder of Kennedy. My topic is the murder of Karyn Kupcinet, daughter of Chicago's Irv Kupcinet, 6 days after Kennedy's,
I had to listen nauseously to the usual Lee Harvey Oswald bio. He was a communist. He had defected to Russia, then welcomed back to the US. He shot at General Walker and missed. He shot at Kennedy from the 6th floor window of the Texas School Book Depository.. And Jack Ruby -- attempted to keep Jackie Kennedy from having to return to Dallas to testify. And this is thrown in with Jewish angst. It is hard to take when I've read so much on the subject. But then there's a change.
It is an interesting tale. I didn't expect I would believe it. On the Nix film, enlarged, you can .see a shooter at the back of the Grassy Knoll and supposedly one in the Pergola. These photos and films were often., edited.. And the author, after the usual LHO killed Kennedy, etc, seems to come to an interesting conclusion. Agent George Hickey shot Kennedy by accident when jostled in the follow up car.. I don't know what to believe. McClaren seems to believe LHO might not have been at that window. A n intriguing book. So many books; so many theories about the assassination of President Kennedy but this one really makes sense. A blatant cover-up by the Secret Service to protect, not only one of their own but the country from the tragic results of that November day in 1963. This one was very convincing.

Great Premise Not Sure it Rocks!
Would you consider the audio edition of JFK: The Smoking Gun to be better than the print version?
Never read the print version, but the audio version is very good and very well narrated.
What did you like best about this story?
I think the expectation was the best part...that we're all about to learn something genuinely NEW in the JFK assassination.
What does Grant Cartwright bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His narration allows the book to play out like a cinema on the screen of one's mind. The basis of great narration is that one forgets they are being "told" the story...this is great narration.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes indeed it was!
Any additional comments?
I really LIKE the premise for this book, and in light of recent Secret Service scandals it certainly seems plausible. The evidence about minute bullet fragments seen on X-ray in the President's brain was quite convincing, though I'm not prepared to accept Oswald as a truly lone, unbacked, non-affiliated "gunman" as the author suggests. At at time when virtually nobody was granted permission to move to the USSR - Oswald was. At a time when virtually nobody was granted permission to come from the USSR to the USA, Oswald was - and this AFTER supposedly renouncing his citizenship. Plus he got to bring his Russian bride?!If anything I'm more prepared to believe it was indeed a conspiracy to murder the CIC, but the Secret Service performed as unwitting accomplices! Certainly a great many "players" at that time had motive to want JFK dead. Equally certain, NO organized "hit" is going to put all the eggs in a single basket....As long as the government and willing "shills" are around to "poo-poo" allegations of conspiracy, and in light of the fact that virtually everyone with firsthand knowledge was either murdered or has died, the American public is virtually assured the Kennedy assassination will remain as mysterious in the future as it was after the lame-O Warren commission published a shoddy compilation of unconnected facts and events without ever once attempted to present a codified picture of what it all added up too. So, I like the book...like the premise, not sure it's THE premise, but considering how bumbling and incompetent the current Secret Service has been revealed to be...the notion of an incompetent boob snatching the trigger on an AR-15 is certainly worth consideration!
