Acerca de esta escucha
August 11, 1991. Watkins Glen, New York. Fifty-two-year-old John Delphus “J.D.” McDuffie Jr climbs aboard his No. 70 Pontiac, and lined up 35th on the grid for NASCAR's Budweiser at the Glen. For the 653rd time, he pinches a cigar between his teeth and fires the engine. Few take notice of No. 70 as it rolls onto the 2.428-mile road course - only a small group of volunteers, fans, and family back home in Sanford, North Carolina. Even they knew McDuffie had never won a NASCAR race, and likely never would before the big-money teams squeezed him out of the sport. But no one knew that just five laps later, McDuffie would be dead, killed in a terrible two-car accident with fellow racer Jimmy Means.
J.D.: The Life and Death of a Forgotten NASCAR Legend tells the true story of J.D. McDuffie, one of stock car racing's most beloved owner-drivers. It's the tale of a man who honed his skills as a mechanic and built his own team from the ground up, with his No. 70 banging fenders with the likes of Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. It's also about the close-knit group of supporters who came together to make sure McDuffie made it to the track in a rapidly changing sport. And it's about that tragic weekend at Watkins Glen, the investigation that followed, and the legacy he's left behind. Top to bottom, it's one of the most comprehensive stories of any race car driver, and a tribute to NASCAR's blue-collar past.

Historia
When NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr., retired from professional stock car racing in 2017, he walked away from his career as a healthy man. But for years, he had worried that the worsening effects of multiple racing-related concussions would end not only his time on the track but his ability to live a full and happy life. Torn between a race-at-all-costs culture and the fear that something was terribly wrong, Earnhardt tried to pretend everything was fine, but the private notes about his escalating symptoms that he kept on his phone reveal a vicious cycle.

"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

Carroll Shelby wasn’t born to run. He was born to race - some of the fastest cars ever to tear up a speedway. The exciting new feature film Ford v Ferrari - starring Matt Damon as Shelby and Christian Bale as fellow racer Ken Miles - immortalizes the small-town Texas boy who won the notorious Le Mans 24-hour endurance challenge and changed the face of auto racing with the legendary Shelby Cobra. But there’s much more to his high-velocity, history-making story.

Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Baby boomers were taking to the roads in droves, looking for speed not safety, style not comfort, and Ford didn’t offer what these young drivers wanted. Wrong narrator for this book
I know mistakes happen, but this is beyond ridiculous. The narrator has a "Dukes of Hazzard" type accent that I doubt is real. This is to make the listener believe he is a NASCAR fan through and through. Then the silly mistakes begin. I had to rewind so many times to check my ears. RICH Hendrick. SUNCO. etc. They go on and on...page after page. I know it sounds nit picky, but this does distract from a great, but sad story.

Worth A Listen, But Not A Priority
The audible version of this book, when compared to the likes of, 'Driving With The Devil', is fitting to the story of the man himself. It was enjoyable, a great story, but the narration was a bit mundane.
