A thrilling nonfiction tour of the cosmos that brings the universe down to Earth, from one of the all-time masters of science fiction.

No one makes sense out of science like Isaac Asimov. Are you puzzled by pulsars? Baffled by black holes? Bewildered by the big bang? If so, here are succinct, crystal-clear answers to more than 100 of the most significant questions about the essential nature of the universe - questions that have fired the imagination since the beginning of history.

Over the course of this fantastic voyage, the origins, the discoveries, and the stunning achievements of astronomy will unfold before your eyes. You will experience close encounters with giant planets, exploding stars, distant galaxies, and more. For anyone who has ever asked the ultimate questions, who has ever looked up at the sky and asked What in heaven is going on?, Isaac Asimov's unique vision, skill, and authority will bring the big picture into focus.

"A fine introduction to modern astronomical theory." (Library Journal)

This book helped me thread many things together. A must listen for those wanting to understand the notion of things. I’ll never look at the Moon the same. I have much More Joy now about how it all moves about over my head.

A good basic overview of astronomy. Presented in a logical, concise fashion that is entertaining and easy to follow. However, as it was published a while back, it could use an update.

Comprehensive

The book could be little more thorough on the subjects!
Isaac Asimov definitely recommended to others .
Definitely worth looking into his other books!

Informative!

Begins with elementary subject matter and rapidly builds into complex topics that are presented in a way that is both compelling and highly accessible. John Lindstrom does a phenomenal job narrating, absolutely love how he reads this and I would love for him to narrate other non-fiction as well!

Favorite thing on all of Audible

A good listen, but the material is outdated. Many of the “we don’t know” passages have been answered by modern science

Dated

This is a mildly interesting recap of basic science, but probably more suited to young school kids or people with little or no formal education in the sciences. The basics are there, but the surface is barely scratched (e.g. a five-minute chapter on how we measure time). We're left with the theories of everything, boiled down to a few minutes each. Inquiring minds will be left wanting.

Pretty Basic
