Cassandra Campbell’s pleasant, articulate performance of Kate Brian’s Invitation Only is the perfect foil for the darkness of this Young Adult audiobook. Listeners are invited to follow the misadventures of Reed Brennen, a teenaged striver who winds up entangled in a web of social ugliness at a prestigious prep academy called Billings. Young adult listeners - particularly of an advanced social class - will find much to fear in this brisk book: compromising photographs, backbiting girlfriends, mysterious boyfriends, "falling in with the wrong crowd", and much more. Scenes of heavy partying and drinking are included. Reed Brennen’s fist-person telling of her story is part spectacle, part cautionary tale. The brave parent will give it as a gift.
