The victim, a retired woman named Linda Wilson, lies at the edge of a small forest atop the Lincoln edge, a steep escarpment that runs throughout Lincolnshire. With the winter storms hammering down, the team works hard to close in on the killer before the wild landscape works against them and any evidence is washed away forever.
However, only hours into the investigation, Freya learns that not everyone who wears a police uniform is on her side – lies and allegations from corrupt police officers leave a trail for her to follow. But when the one man she can trust turns his back on her, she must face her ordeal alone while solving what is to be one of the most complex investigations of her career.
With the victim’s husband missing, the team unearth a web of lies and the terrible reality hits home – Linda Wilson wasn’t the killer’s first victim…and she won’t be the last.
