This book has finally made me understand why I behave the way I do. An eye opening book

The book with all the car studies and stories help us understand the deeper reasons why addiction happens and how a drug addict and one addicted to buying music /books are the same. The fact that addiction is a coping mechanism for some form of trauma or negative self-image, is made so much clearer by the work of Dr. Mate.

I have shared widely, as I find this subject and Dr Maté's findings to have given me massive insights into my work, my parenting and the psyche of society. The puritanical approach to addicts by governments indicates a gross abdication of responsibility.

Brilliant book

I find it a brilliant book. It goes beyond the addictions per se and it takes us to the understanding of what is behind them. And let’s get real: we all have ours. And most often we don’t want to call them addictions because we can’t stand the fact that ‘we have an challenge’ to overcome!
I love how Dr. Gabor Mate explains everything and takes us with him through his own journey!
