As someone who was possibly born with hearing loss, the author’s hearing loss became more severe as she grew up. Tracy was a child who struggled in school at the age when the essential skills of reading, writing, and comprehension developed. These skills have always been a challenge throughout her life.
I'm Not Stupid, I Have Hearing Loss is a story of hearing loss and hearing aids. Including hearing and brain care tips, the author shares experiences of having hearing loss and wearing hearing aids. Tracy’s accomplishments have not come easy. Reading lips was a habit she was not aware she was doing. Hearing loss can cause fatigue, depression, isolation, and often experiences of unkind treatment from others. Tracy shares the experiences she has had getting through her life as a child and adult with hearing loss. Tracy was teased and made fun of by certain individuals for how she spoke when she thought she spoke just fine. She shares about different occasions when she was treated unkindly due to the hearing loss and more.
She always wanted to be an author of a book, but thought she was not smart enough.
Once she began wearing hearing aids in her late 30s, her life changed. In time, to her surprise, reading and writing became less of a challenge for her. She learned as an adult how hearing loss can affect such skills at all ages, especially kids. This audiobook is a helpful resource for parents to help them understand more about children with hearing loss and learning disabilities. Tracy shares her experiences with her struggles learning in elementary school because of her hearing loss that was not noticed by her teachers. If you have a hearing loss, you may relate to the stories the author shares. If you know someone with hearing loss, this audiobook will help you understand what hearing-impaired people go through. According to statistics reported by CDC in 2020, one in 54 children in the USA were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in 2016. It is suggested that boys are four times more likely to get a diagnosis of autism than girls. Autism does not discriminate; it affects all ethnicities and socio-economic groups. Getting the diagnosis and intervention early is better, however, unfortunately, this does not happen for all families.
