Starting in Pakistan, where his grandmother was married to an abusive husband, the cycle would continue for three generations. His mother was forced to marry a Pakistani gangster at a young age. Even after moving to the United States for a better life, she, Mannie, and his siblings were victims of his nightmarish rage.

With an abusive dad and a mom who couldn’t walk away, Mannie didn’t have role models to emulate. Everyone around him was either gang members, criminals, or addicts—and he didn’t see a clear path forward. Making matters worse, he was often bullied in school and teased because of his poor English.

As an adult making his way in the world, Mannie now has a choice: Continue the cycle, or be a light in the darkness, a hope for others to keep going.

So Inspirational!

This book gave me so much perspective on life and helped see things in a different light. I highly recommend everyone to read this book!

Inspiring

The author’s story is inspiring. It’s compelling and very well written. My brother gifted me this book so I had no clue what it was about until I listened to it. Veneno’s resiliency to personal hardships is encouraging for anyone feeling like they are going through a rough patch. It’s a quick and easy listen and I’m sure I’ll end up listening to it over again. Thank you for putting your story out there. It reminds me why I, myself, need to keep fighting for life and discover my own purpose for being here.

From darkness and despair to the light

This personal story proves that no matter how dark your life is, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. You just need to walk towards it one step at a time. You will be sad and crying when you read what Mannie and his family went through, but by the end you will be crying tears of joy to read that Mannie made it out of the dark.

I’m coming from @darius_dk Page from Instagram. I’ve only listened to the first 3 chapters and I can honestly say I’m intrigued. This book is how I will spend my night. The Story you are telling is so relatable to many; and the way it’s being told has me envisioning it in mind as if I was watching a movie. Great work.

He came from a hard life and made sure he made it out of that it really is inspirational that he went from being poor and abused to upgrading his life for a better one even though he got in trouble a few times he still was able to turn all that around

Such an amazing story on coming from nothing to accomplishing anything you can imagine. A must read for anyone on a spiritual journey

Great book

This book really showed me you can make it no matter what your going through. It’s a reason stuff get hard so it can become easy in the long run. Compared to what our parents and grand parents went through we have it easy. We need to stop complaining and embrace the grind. The main question I ask myself after reading this book is “How do you want to be remembered”?

I love this book so so much

It really taught me no matter what life throws at you if you just keep pushing through u will find the answers, the right people and the will to keep going and accomplish everything you want to accomplish and even when you do and life throws a curve ball again keep going, keep networking and meeting new people because sometimes all it takes is one person to show you that things aren't as bad as you think. I already recommended this book to 2 people and wont stop recommending it! Very inspiring and tells the story well. لا تفقد الامل❤️
