Resumen del Editor

Megan Daniels was only three years old the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, but flashes of that day begin to trigger other disturbing memories that have lain dormant within her. At first they are merely snippets, but, as they begin to appear more frequently Megan has difficulty separating what is real from what is imagined. In her attempt to learn more, she sets out to find her biological mother, but keeps hitting brick walls. No adoption papers exist, and all she has to go on is her possible birthday: November 22. In the small town of Meredith, California, Megan’s search takes on a dire, domino effect - one woman has already been murdered as a result of her inquiries.

As she digs for the truth, Megan eventually unravels a sinister plot that began decades earlier, but in doing so she places her own life in jeopardy.

Got better and better

I always have a bit of a struggle following the story when I start. New characters and new plot. This was no different, but the author caught my interest quickly. Once it captured my focus, it just got better and better. Great characters, each with their own lives and challenges. I really enjoyed this story.

A Gem

Megan is on a journey to figure out who her parents were for medical purposes. She tries a few different ways to find out who her parents are; at first, she systematically investigates the leads, but she is in for a tragic and absolutely shocking discovery. I dont want to ruin it for anyone so I won't go into further details about the actual story, but this one is well worth it.

Except to say that this book has almost nothing to do with the JFK assassination and the assassination is entirely minor detail and is primarily used as a mechanism to determine a date, in the big scheme of things. I say this because the cover of the book has JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy on the front, so don't let that mislead you.

It does get suspenseful towards the end but in general it is a mystery, not a thriller.

I was engaged throughout the whole book. The author takes you on so many twists and turns, but neatly ties up everything by the end. Masterfully written!

The narration was perfect.

I received a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Are you my Mother?

f You Should Read This, Mother
: Vivian Rhodes

I wanted to leave a unique review but someone else said what I was thinking. The following is borrowed from a review, that reviewer has a fuller review on goodreads... .......

"4.0 out of 5 stars A multi-layered, complex book with compelling mysteries, August 2, 2017
By Charlie Reads
This review is from: If You Should Read This, Mother (Kindle Edition)
A multi-layered, complex book with compelling mysteries that held my interest.

I was a little overwhelmed at first by the number of point-of-view characters, and their detailed back stories. However, once the story picked up I enjoyed piecing it together from the different perspectives."

Ok now back to me...... As I listened to the audio book, I was wishing I had a print or ebook so I could go back and easily re-read different passages.
There were plenty of twists and turns with plenty of suspense to keep the listener fully engaged. The many characters and their own layer in weave well to form an interesting story.

I really enjoyed this book.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Su Meck.

ARE YOU MY MOTHER?

I enjoyed listening to this book and would recommend it to others. Megan wants to know more about her medical history and has gone in search of her biological mother. The search turns out to be way more than she imagined. Many characters are introduced early in the book, complicating things for listeners, but clears up as you go. The more Megan gets to know of these people, the more afraid she becomes and finds herself not wanting to be related to any of them. The characters in the book are well developed and as the mystery unfolds and characters begin to die, the reader wonders if the mystery will ever be solved. I received this book free of charge for an unbiased review. I recommend this book.

Who am I?

I absolutely loved listening to this book!! Meagan had learnt that she was adopted when she was 7 years old or so. She loved her adoptive parents and had a happy childhood. She marries Keith and after a number of years of marriage, they have a daughter who is now 4 1/2 years old. They are now trying for a 2nd child, but find that they are having trouble. Meagan decides to try to find her biological parents to learn of their medical history. In this search there was plenty of suspenseful twists and turns combined plenty of interesting characters. I usually only listen to audio books on my hour commute to and from work each day, but was so engaged that I simply had to finish it off listening at home on the weekend. The narrator is probably the best one that I have heard. Each character was easily identifiable. The only issue that I did have was the story goes back and forth from 1963 to 2003, which would Meagan 43 years old. I thought that in many instances in the book, it indicated that she was only in her 30's. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great story - if you don't mind the poor narration

The premise of this story -- a woman seeking to find her biological parents -- isn't new or even particularly well justified, but the author has taken an apparently simple story and rendered it into a kind of 'domestic mystery'. Which isn't bad -- there is plenty to keep the listener's interest. I was certainly sufficiently intrigued to keep going, but there were a few times that I nearly gave up in disgust.

In the first third of the story there are so many different characters it's difficult to keep track of who's who, and in one instance two characters have the same name, which was so horribly confusing I had to re-listen to a couple of chapters. In some way a key scene in the story seems to coincide with the day that US president Kennedy was assassinated, but that soon fizzles out into nothing, and I wondered why the author even bothered. I would recommend that this book be edited, as it has great potential.

About 70% of the narration is reasonably well done when the narrator takes on the point of view of the protagonist, Megan Daniels, but the rest is just appalling. Several female characters are rendered in shrill, high-pitched voices that are so awful they can only be described as caricatures. The only instance in which that particular voice works is for the little girl Katie, but even that is annoying. I could not believe the publisher or the author were actually okay about releasing this audio version.

Overall, a great story -- if you don't mind the poor narration.

About the reviewer: My reviews may be critical but never unkind or malicious. I am a voracious reader who consumes books in print and audio -- fiction, non-fiction and professional reference -- in equal measure, and my reviews reflect this wide readership.

Needs a good editor

This could have been an exciting story, but I spent so much time and effort struggling with the timeline and keeping the characters straight that it became a bit of a slog. There were so many characters to keep track of that I found myself having to go back and review some chapters. Worse, there were blatant discrepancies in the timeline. These discrepancies were so glaring that it spoiled the story for me.

Su Meck's performance left much to be desired. She made an obvious effort to give distinctive voices to the characters, but these voices were all too similar and not at all appropriate for the characters. They just sounded high-pitched and whiney. I think a good editor and different narrator could do wonders for this story.

Maybe not

I wanted to like this book and started to, but even as it drew me in it lost me again before the end and the narrator didn't help.

This was a different kind of mystery with many sub-stories and several characters that converge at the end. It has intriguing qualities, although it becomes confusing with the number of characters and situations that are going on.

I wasn't really drawn to Megan, the main character in the story. Actually, I can't say I really liked any of the characters. I can understand Megan wanting to know who her birth mother is, but it seemed odd that she would ignore her own daughter and husband in the process. I found it strange that after hearing a woman had been murdered, she didn't think to mention it to the police that her hotel room had been broken into. There were other things that I found a bit confusing and unbelievable about the story making this book hard to really like

The narration did not work for me. Su Meck does a nice job as Megan, but the rest of the characters not so much.
