Brutal
I've given these stories a five star rating because readers of "extreme horror" will be delighted by the writing.
I've read (almost) nothing but horror anthologies where there seems to be the best efforts made to effect the reader. A few misfires, but generally thoughtful and immersive. And then there is book #7 of the series I've been following from its start. And it was a gut-punch, unlike any anthology I've listened to in the past. Of course a few stories from several anthologies might rise to this level of brutality, but this one jumped to the top and stayed there. Every story hurt - especially that shocking last story that I wish I could get out of my head.
Be forewarned - Even if you've listened to the previous 6 books in this series, be prepared for a very bumpy ride.
