Not a bad book

The plot was very interesting and the characters were well developed. The only reason I didn’t rate this book higher was because it is a bit confusing. I think if the author had used the idea of years instead of “then and now” it would had been so much better. The narrator was good but I think she could have done more to clarify the time line. Perhaps with more dramatic pauses. Overall, it was a decent novel and I will definitely read other works by Gayle Curtis.

Kept me listening; however, one must pay attention because the story goes from then and now.

Can get confusing

This is a dark read. It seemed like every character had deep rooted issues and flaws. It’s heavy because it can also be slightly depressing with all the “bad” that’s going on. Like is everyone really that messed up?

Also it’s a lot going on, so you have to pay attention. I felt that it was too many stories tying into one and you may get distracted with the bouncing around.

I give the author credit for bringing everything together because there’s a good bit of characters and back stories.

And then there’s some unanswered questions for me. I don’t think they properly informed the readers of magda’s involvement and how the letters could have incriminated her. And also, why did she kill her brother?

A wild collection of thrilling stories

For a book that had no likable characters in it, I CHOOSE YOU made for an entertaining listen, if I focused hard enough on it.

I usually listen to audiobooks while doing chores and such, but this book had so much going on with different timelines and different characters that I often found myself getting lost if I wasn’t giving this 110% of my attention.

A twisted story of a family wracked with grief after the attack and death of their teenage daughter, if you’re in the market for a dark read, this is it.

The mystery is good but it jumps around too much.

Normal, not a type of book I would read. But I decided to try something different. For most of the book, I was lost. There were 3stories going on and they would jump around a lot. several times I thought about putting down the book and moving on to a new book. But I like finishing books. So I finished it.

'F' Bombs!

Too many 'F' bombs! I would have enjoyed it so much more without them!

Stick with it... unexpected and original!

I haven’t written a review in a while, but this book really compelled me. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but If you want the short of this, I would recommend! But… There is always a but...

I almost gave up on this book one minute in because of the narration, but once I realized it wouldn’t be that voice/ accent throughout & there was definitely a reason for it, it didn’t bother me at all. The narrator did a fantastic job of going between characters.

This book is a thinker… You really need to pay attention, so bear that in mind if you’re looking for something light. For me, this is a true definition “psychological” thriller… I’m not saying it is completely thrilling, but it is definitely dark, mysterious, disturbing, and it is ENTIRELY psychological. But you need to listen to the “then” and “now” at the beginning of each chapter, and even then it can sometimes get confusing.

A real life lesson occurred to me halfway through, and we have all heard it, but it was really demonstrated in this book. We can certainly become our parents’, spouse’s, friends’, etc.) self-fulfilling prophecy. We give away ourselves (our lives, our personalities, our confidence....) everyday because of one mistake, our upbringing, our past. But it happens so gradually that we don’t even realize it. I feel that way about Elise. Saying much more would give too much away, so I’ll leave it at that and see what you think after you listen.

Lastly, if you love a good mystery, you will probably like this. I have been so bored with guessing the ending halfway through a book, or to have some ‘out of left field’ ridiculous surprise, that the only reason I keep listening is to simply prove that I’m right or wrong. I’m not even the smartest… but I have obviously been picking the wrong books lately! In my personal opinion, it would be nearly impossible to come close to making a guess very early because of the complication and intricacies of the plot. Yes it may be a little far-fetched, but I love that it’s not predictable & completely original.

interesting story

It was a suspenseful story.
I was not crazy about the performer reading. But I got use to her voice after a while. She occasionally was hard to understand.
